fast food chain nandos is set to provide one million meals to aussie via foodbank

Fast food chain Nando’s is giving back to vulnerable Australians this year by donating a meal to Foodbank for every purchase over the value of $15.

The chain found that one in five people in Australia have experienced food insecurity as a result of COVID-19, with the number of people seeking food relief having increased by a staggering 78 per cent.

To help out others in need, all you need to do is order your favourite dish over the value of $15 and a meal will automatically be donated on your behalf.

1. Grab a ‘cheeky Nando’s’ to give someone else a meal

With the statistics showing that one in five people in Australia are currently experiencing food insecurity, there has never been a more important time to give back.

Foodbank Australia has seen an extraordinary increase in demand for food from those who have never had to ask for food assistance before.

Nando’s – known for its spicy Peri-Peri chicken – is lending a helping hand to those facing hardship  by donating a meal to Foodbank for every purchase over the value of $15.

The chain has already donated almost 618,012 meals to Foodbank, with the goal of reaching one million meals by the end of winter.

This translates to a massive $500,000 contribution to Foodbank’s national food relief effort.

Whether you like your chicken with lemon and herb, mild or hot, order the same meal every time or mix it up, you’ll be giving back to Australians every time you chow down.

2. Enjoy a pint at the pub to give back to your favourite bar

And Nando’s isn’t the only brand giving back.

With pubs just recently given the green light to start serving patrons again it will be a long time until they break even on profits.

Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) has teamed up with the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) and is committed to raise up to $2million worth of support for local pubs throughout these challenging times.

All you have to do is buy a beer voucher from your local pub and CUB will match your support by shouting you another beer.

To date, beer lovers have raised over $1.2 million.

Head to loveyourlocal.com.au to get behind your favourite pub as they start to see patrons return.

3. Buy from Who Gives A Cr*p to help others have access to a working toilet

Roughly 2.3 billion people of the world’s population don’t have access to a working toilet.

Poor water and sanitisation experienced across the globe contributes to one child dying from diarrhoeal diseases every two minutes.

The team at Australian-owned Who Gives a Cr*p donate 50 per cent of their profits to helping implement high impact sanitisation projects across developing countries.

When supermarkets Down Under ran out of toilet paper, Who Gives A Cr*p was inundated with requests from mindful Aussies and is luckily back in stock.

Who Gives A Cr*p has already donated a whopping $2.6 billion dollars to save tens of thousands of people in need.

The Duchess of York has delighted fans by reading a book about a magical grandmother on her YouTube series – just hours after her daughter Princess Eugenie announced she is pregnant with her first child.

Sarah Ferguson, 60, opted to read Nanna Maureen by Casey Gillespie – which tells the heartwarming, rhyming tale of a magical and invisible grandmother who looks out for the children – for her series Story Time With Fergie and Friends.

The video was shared shortly after Buckingham Palace announced Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child together.

The couple, who married in October 2018, are expecting the baby in early 2021.

The children’s book was written by Casey especially for her children and niece – and was inspired by her mother who passed away years before becoming a Nanna.

‘It’s very good – are you ready for all those Nannas, out there? Grannies, Grandmpas, Nannas and everybody out there – it’s dead exciting!’ Fergie can be heard saying, as she prepares to start reading.

And royal fans were delighted with the ‘appropriate’ choice of tale about a grandmother – with one even suggesting the Duchess of York should change the name to ‘Sarah’ for the day – in celebration of her daughter’s happy news.

‘Congratulations appropriate book to be reading,’ enthused one, while a second commented: ‘Perhaps change the name to nanna Sarah for today…..lovely news.’

A third added: ‘Congratulations! Just think of all the special times you’ll have reading to your new grandchild!’

Meanwhile, the author of the book commented: ‘Thanks so much for sharing my book and congratulations to you.’

Buckingham Palace released a statement this morning that read: ‘Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.

‘The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.’

Princess Eugenie shared the news on her Instagram shortly afterwards.

The Royal Family shared their congratulations on social media, echoing the best wishes expressed in the statement and accompanying them with a sweet photo of the couple on their wedding day in October 2018.

Sarah Ferguson added to the well-wishes this afternoon. Speaking to Hello!, she said: ‘Soon to be Granny and Granddad are absolutely overjoyed!’

adopted son tracks mother to melbourne to find out she was murdered

An adopted son who tracked his birth mother down only to discover she had been murdered has shared his incredible story.

Perth teacher Matthieu Heimel, 41, was originally born in the Phillipines and his two sons inspired him to begin looking for his birth parents in 2018.

Mr Heimel connected with his biological father through a DNA search and began to contact family members in the Philippines via Facebook.

But the 41-year-old soon discovered his mother Nenita Evans had moved to Melbourne in 1985 and vanished, Yahoo News reported.

Ms Evans married a man named Greg Evans, who she had met in Manila, and got a job as a housekeeper at the Melbourne Club, a popular gentlemen’s club.

She worked for a man named Vicenzo Leonardi, who continued to promote Ms Evans, and would drive her home.

There were rumours Mr Leonardi and Ms Evans were having an affair, and she began attending night school to become a florist after he put her in charge of floral arrangements.

Ms Evans returned to the Melbourne Club to show off her portfolio on January 8 in 1987 and was never seen again.

Her husband Greg Evans was initially a prime suspect in Ms Evans’ murder case but Victoria Police never solved the mystery.

As Mr Heimel continued to search for answers he uncovered more disturbing facts that could link to his mother’s disappearance.

Another woman named Milagros Dark was found murdered in 1990 and she also used to work at the Melbourne Club and drive home with Mr Leonardi.

Mr Heimel then found a third woman, Anna Maria Pontarollo, who was linked to the Melbourne Club boss and vanished in 1954.

Mr Heimel (pictured) discovered his mother worked as a housekeeper at the Melbourne Club and two other employees from the gentleman's club had also vanished after Ms Evans

Ms Pontarollo had been living with Mr Leonardi and the pair had two children together before Mr Leonardi’s wife migrated from Italy.

She disappeared soon after and Mr Leonardi told the children his wife was their biological mother.

Mr Leonardi attended a Coroner’s Court hearing into the disappearance of Ms Evans in 1995 but did not give evidence. He died in 2009.

Mr Heimel said he was continuing to seek answers but sometimes struggled with the revelations.

‘I move on from one discovery to another, it’s hard for me to show my emotions.

‘When I started to look for my birth mother I was hoping that it wasn’t too late,’ he explained.

Mr Heimel said finding out what happened to his mother would provide closure for his own family.

‘It is a story of resilience which will inspire people by showing that while difficult times do come, they can be overcome,’ he said in a Facebook post.

Radio host Kyle Sandilands asked Bella: ‘By looking at Daily Mail the other day, your person has come in the form of Nathan from Bachelor in Paradise. You had a little sleepover, didn’t you?’

‘Nathan and I are just good mates,’ she replied.

She went on to explain that she’d asked Nathan to come over with his puppy, but he had a few too many glasses of wine and slept on the couch.

Earlier in the day, Bella hinted she could be Australia’s next Bachelorette after getting her heart broken during The Bachelor finale.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Mail Australia on Friday, the Bachelor runner-up confessed she’d love to be cast on the reality show.

‘Yeah, I mean, what a way to get your happily ever after!’ she said.

Bella was left shell-shocked during Thursday’s Bachelor finale when Locky Gilbert, 31, told both her and love rival Irena Srbinovska he loved them – only to dump her.

‘I know you don’t, like, sort of see where your future is at the moment. I think I need just a little bit of certainty,’ he said, as Bella looked at him in utter disbelief.

‘I just don’t know if I can see us working,’ he added, to which the brunette replied: ‘I just don’t get it. Yesterday, you told me you were in love with me.’

Instead, Locky chose to pursue a relationship with nurse Irena Srbinovska.
