northern territory duo face court after allegedly shooting 30 horses at the at the killarney station

Two men will front court after 30 prized horses worth half-a-million dollars were shot dead on a remote cattle station.

The men, aged 38 and 40, will appear at at Katherine Local Court, in the Northern Territory, on November 9 after they allegedly shot the horses at the Killarney Station on September 19.

The duo are charged with property offenses and animal cruelty, NT News reported.

The horses were worth half-a-million dollars and the accused did not have permission to shoot in the area, according Station manager Jamie Laurisson.

The two sports shooters allegedly entered the property without permission and went on a shooting spree.

Mr Laurisson described the alleged shooters’s acts as ‘mind-numbingly stupid’.

‘The horses were not shot in a humane or professional manner as one would expect from members of a shooters’ association,’ he told NT News at the time.

‘The loss of these horses has had a massive impact on staff, management and (the) principles of Killarney station.

‘Initially [there was] shock and disbelief, then grief, anger, heartbreak and devastation.’

The cattle station will also seek compensation for years of hard work with breeding and training the horses.

‘At Killarney our horses are what define us, they are our mates, members of our team, they are what make getting up before daylight every morning all worth it. Nothing is ever going to repair the heart break we are all feeling,’ a post shared by the Station on Instagram read.

A legal team has also been hired to launch a civil suit on behalf of staff seeking compensation for their loss.

In 2013, the glamorous brunette was named an ‘Active Living Advocate’ by fitness brand Lorna Jane, and in an accompanying interview spoke about her love for sport and competitive spirit.

‘I was involved in team sports all throughout my schooling. In grade 11 I injured my ankle pretty badly playing netball, tearing all the ligaments. This ruled out sports that cause strain to my joints and so alternatively I took up training at the gym with my mum,’ the then 19-year-old said.

‘It became pretty addictive, using workouts that were designed to change the shape of my body as well as just keep generally fit. It’s nice to be able to see your progress, as well as feel it on the inside.’

‘I don’t know how I got so lucky to find this guy, who makes me smile this big every day, while giving me the most selfless support and encouragement to go about my journeys.’

‘The way we live our life is that whatever one of us is investing their time in, we both are. We feel as though that’s a real strength in our relationship,’ she told Health Lab.

Brooke made headlines in 2016 when she took to Instagram to publicly defend Trent when his team leadership had been criticised in the media and by fans.

‘Every week you go out and give your all. To have to listen to the constant criticism you have had to put up with especially of late has been incredibly hard,’ she wrote.

‘Those closest to you know just how dedicated you are to your football club and teammates on and off the field. As a wise man once told me “People’s opinions are none of our business”.’

The post was slammed by the public, but Trent defended his wife.

‘I think she just sees what other people are saying or thinking outside of our four walls, and then obviously our family and friends,’ he told Channel Nine at the time.

‘But the reality is criticism doesn’t just affect the people it’s said about, it’s the people that care about them as well.’

preachers daughter 15 kicked out class for wearing homosexuality is a sin t shirt sues school

A streets preacher from Tennessee is suing a school district that allegedly kicked out his 15-year-old daughter after wearing a shirt that read ‘Homosexuality is a sin.’

Richard Penkoski says Overton County Schools violated his daughter’s rights to free speech after being kicked out of the class specifically because of the shirt she was wearing at Livingston Academy in August.

It read: ‘Homosexuality is a sin – 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,’ referring to first Corinthians chapter six in the Bible.

Penkoski’s daughter was sent to the principal’s office where the teenager was told the shirt broke the school’s dress code for being ‘sexually connotative.’

The girl protested her case noting that a ‘pro-homosexual symbol’ was on display inside the classroom referring to a rainbow flag used by the LGBTQ community according to the lawsuit seen by the New York Post and filed in the US District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee last week.

Penkoski runs a ministry called Warriors for Christ and filed the lawsuit earlier this month.

His daughter, who is identified in the lawsuit as ‘B.A.P.’, explained to administrators that she was unable to cover up her top and ended up texting her parents about the issue.

Penkoski posted a photo of his daughter wearing the shirt one day after the incident.

‘My 15 year old was thrown out of school for the day for wearing this shirt,’ he said in a tweet on August 26. ‘#lgbt wants to trample on your #freespeech rights while they cry for special rights.’

The lawsuit claims the teenager’s  First and Fourteenth Amendment rights to free speech and freedom of religion were violated. The suit states that the incident also violated protections granted by Tennessee’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act, according to the Charlotte Observer.

thunderstorms to batter australias east coast again ahead of afl grand final in brisbane

Severe thunderstorms, torrential rain and strong winds will batter Australia’s east coast once again on Saturday with fears the AFL Grand Final could be postponed.

The weather bureau dubbed it the ‘multi-state thunderstorm outbreak’ and will target Queensland, New South Wales, north-east Victoria, parts of South Australia and northern parts of the Northern Territory.

The AFL Grand Final between the Richmond Tigers and Geelong Cats at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday could be rescheduled due to the severe weather.

Severe thunderstorms will spread more than 1,000km across NSW, blanketing land from Broken Hill to Newcastle.

Similar heavy rainfall is likely to affect huge swathes of Queensland as far north as Cooktown, down to Brisbane, Melbourne and Tasmania.

Under the AFL’s Extreme Weather Policy, if there are thunderstorms within 10km of the field, then the players must seek cover inside and play should be stopped.

‘Under the lightning rule they can delay the match by up to an hour,’ an AFL spokesperson told 7News.

‘It has happened before, but it’s very rare.’

The game can only resume if there is no lightning within 10km of the field for 30 minutes.

A Bureau of Meteorology spokesperson told the publication they are more likely to play in the rain.

They said that there was only a 20 per cent chance that thunderstorms would occur within 10km of the stadium.

Friday night’s grim weather saw about 50 calls made to the State Emergency Services (SES) due to extensive damages.

Bureau of Meteorology Meteorologst Helen Reid warned that it’ll be a ‘quite an active day’ compared to Friday.

‘On the whole we’re expecting about 10 to 15 millimetres across the Sydney region and if there are thunderstorms you could get significantly more than that,’ she told Sydney Morning Herald

She said heavy winds could reach up to 60km/h in coastal areas and ask residents to keep away from trees and power lines.

The bureau also warned of large hailstones could hit parts of the  Riverina district as well as flash flooding.

The most likely affected areas include Wagga Wagga, Tumbarumba, Griffith, Narrandera, Lockhart and Darlington Point.

BOM Meterologist Jonathan How warned heavy downpours are likely to continue well into the weekend.

‘It is shaping up to be a stormy and wet weekend for eastern parts of Queensland and New South Wales including Brisbane and Sydney,’ Mr How said.

‘Rainfall totals this Sunday will broadly be 30-50mm across parts of eastern Australia but, when we do see those more intense thunderstorms, we could see totals of 100 and even up to 150mm for some parts.’

When the most severe storms hit rainfall totals could exceed 100-150mm for some parts.

Western Australia will miss out on entirely on the weather event, with sunny days and temperatures forecast in the late 20s to early 30s heading towards the weekend.

Just last month, the bureau officially declared the country’s first active La Niña in 10 years.

The weather event occurs when stronger equatorial winds, blowing east to west, cool the Pacific Ocean in the tropical north of Australia.

During the last La Niña between 2010 and 2012, the weather bureau said Australia had one of the ‘wettest two-year periods on record’.

‘Widespread flooding occurred in many parts of Australia associated with the record rainfalls,’ it said.

The Bureau of Meteorology has officially declared the first La Niña event since 2010 to 2012, when floods ravaged Queensland, killing 33 people.
