Ben Fordham faced widespread scrutiny after taking over Alan Jone’s 2GB breakfast show in May.

But it seems Fordham, 43, is having the last laugh, after his show won the Sydney radio ratings on Tuesday.

Proving himself a formidable replacement for his predecessor, Fordham’s breakfast show won the AM Breakfast slot with 17.3 per cent in the first survey since Jones’ departure- a number almost identical to Jones’ last survey results of  17.9 per cent.

According to the figures, 2GB enjoys a market-leading 14.2% share overall, which is slightly down from down from 14.8% in April.

Fordham was reportedly under pressure to produce good ratings after critics believed he was ‘too nice and relaxed’ to fill the famously fiery Jones’ shoes.

However, Fordham previously told The Australian that he wasn’t trying to emulate Jones’ style, but rather ‘bring his own flavour of breakfast to the radio.’

‘My main focus is going to be what’s on the mind of people as they wake up in Sydney, and that needs to really drive my agenda every day,’ he told the publication in June.

Defending his credentials, the media personality said: ‘I’ve been working in Sydney for the last 20-plus years, building a lot of contacts in police and politics and community life and charities and everything else I’m associated with, so hopefully I’ve got a pretty good grasp on what’s going on.’

Fordham previously revealed that he didn’t initially want the 2GB breakfast job, and that it was actually his wife Jodie Speers who ultimately made the decision for him.

Speaking to Stellar Magazine, Fordham said he turned down the role multiple times because he wasn’t sure whether it would be the ‘best for his family’.

‘I totally appreciate that the job itself is a spectacular one. But make no mistake, it’s not one I was chasing for family reasons. I just wasn’t.

‘I was concerned about the impact it would have on the family setup. And I suppose I just thought it would be easier not to. I think I said no about six times,’ he admitted.

Fordham was ultimately swayed by the realisation that his new schedule would allow him to pick up his  son, Freddy, five, from school, and the endorsement of Jodie, 37.

He explained: ‘I lean on her heavily. And I gave her a deadline and said, ‘Listen, if you change your mind and say no, I will never hold it against you.”

Jodie told Stellar: ‘I knew he had to take it, but I probably had a bit of a knot in my stomach trying to process it’.

Ben recently took his older children, son Freddy, five, and daughter Pearl, three, out of school due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ben and Jodie, who were married in 2011, welcomed their third child, a daughter, Marigold ‘Goldie’ Jean, in September last year.

The Wanted star Tom Parker and his wife Kelsey have welcomed their second child, a baby boy, 15 days after he revealed he had been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour.

The singer’s former bandmate Max George confirmed the news on Tuesday’s Lorraine, revealing Kelsey had given birth last week.

Talking to host Lorraine Kelly, Max, 32, who is current competing on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, said: ‘I spoke to him yesterday and he’s doing good, he’s doing great.

‘Kelsey gave birth to their second child last week. He’s a fighter, Tom will be alright. If you’re watching by the way, mwah, I love you all.’

This is Tom and Kelsey’s second child, they also have 15-month-old daughter Aurelia. They are yet to announce the news themselves on social media.

On October 12, Tom, 32, emotionally announced he has grade four glioblastoma, with the singer already undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment in a bid to prolong his life.

Life expectancy for this illness ranges from three months to 18 months after diagnosis, but the couple have not asked to hear Tom’s prognosis amid fears he would ‘sit and count down the days and not live his life’.

Tom and Kelsey welcomed daughter Aurelia Rose in July 2019 and announced they were expecting their second child, a baby boy, in June this year.

Kelsey decided she wanted a home birth, so Tom could be around after Covid restrictions in hospital would have limited their time together during labour.

The couple have been together for more than 10 years after originally meeting in a night club. They became engaged in 2016 and tied the knot two years later in July 2018.

They decided to announce Tom’s devastating diagnosis, 36 weeks into Kelsey’s pregnancy.

Kelsey said at the time she had forgotten she was pregnant because her sole focus was on Tom.

Posting a photo with Kelsey and Aurelia Rose earlier this month, the singer wrote: ‘Hey guys, you know that we’ve both been quiet on social media for a few weeks and it’s time to tell you why.

‘There’s no easy way to say this but I’ve sadly been diagnosed with a Brain Tumour and I’m already undergoing treatment.

‘We decided, after a lot of thought, that rather than hiding away and trying to keep it a secret, we would do one interview where we could lay out all the details and let everyone know the facts in our own way.

‘We are all absolutely devastated but we are gonna fight this all the way. We don’t want your sadness, we just want love and positivity and together we will raise awareness of this terrible disease and look for all available treatment options.

‘It’s gonna be a tough battle but with everyone’s love and support we are going to beat this. Tom and Kelsey xxx.’

Tom told OK! Magazine he underwent tests after he began suffering unexplained seizures, with doctors giving the family the ‘worst case scenario’ and revealing he had a grade four glioblastoma when they were on a staycation in Norwich over the summer.

The singer said he was still in ‘complete shock’ from the devastating diagnosis, with Kelsey adding the couple ‘knew’ something was wrong in July but would never have imagined he could have a tumour.

Tom said: ‘I knew something wasn’t right, but I never expected it to be this. You never think this will happen to you.’

The star visited A&E after having his first seizure, where he complained of having a bad back and had a mark on his head.

Tom was then sent home but felt like he had concussion, with the singer returning to hospital the following week and put on a waiting list to have an MRI.

The family went on holiday to Norwich in August with Tom enduring another ‘much worse’ seizure, six weeks after the first one.

Kelsey said she and Tom had to ‘push’ for paramedic to come, with Tom having an MRI when he arrived.

He added that he was told he would be out in four hours but ended up being there for three days having tests.

Discussing the moment he was given his devastating diagnosis, he said: ‘A couple of days later, when we were still on holiday. Kelsey couldn’t come in because of Covid.

‘They pulled the curtain around my bed and said, ‘It’s a brain tumour.’ All I could think was, ‘F*****g hell!’ I was in shock. It’s stage four glioblastoma and they’ve said its terminal. It was a lot to deal with by myself. I still haven’t processed it.

Kelsey said: ‘It was horrendous. They rang me and told me over the phone. They said, ‘It’s a tumour and it’s worst-case scenario.’

‘They also told us it was inoperable and what the treatment would be. I was in a complete state. All I could think was, ‘What’s going to happen and what is our life now?’

Tom is now undergoing chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment in a bid to shrink the tumour at King’s College Hospital in London which he says has been ‘intense and tiring’.

Kelsey said more tumours will ‘probably pop up’ and that Tom could live with the disease for the rest of his life, undergoing treatment to shrink tumours.

Due to COVID-19 regulations, Kelsey is not allowed to accompany him to treatment.

The couple added they have not asked about a prognosis, with Kelsey saying it would not be good for Tom’s state of mind, and that he would ‘sit and count down the days and not live his life’.

Tom and Kelsey are now hoping for a miracle and remaining positive as Tom battles the tumour, with the couple exploring alternative treatments and clinical trials both in the UK and abroad.

The star said he needs ‘everyone’s love and positivity’ during his fight and said he was buoyed by stories of people given a bad prognosis but had defied the odds.

Glioblastoma is considered the most aggressive tumour that can form in the brain. Senator John McCain was diagnosed with one in July 2017.

Patients have a 10 percent chance of surviving five years after their diagnosis, according to figures. The average lifespan is between 14 and 16 months.

Three adults per every 100,000 will be struck down with a glioblastoma, says The American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS).

It is most commonly found in men aged 50 to 60, and there is no link between developing glioblastoma and having a previous history with other cancers.

Treatment is usually surgery to remove as much of the tumour as possible, followed by a combination of radio- and chemotherapy (chemoradiation).

Glioblastoma is considered the most aggressive tumor that can form in the brain.

WHAT IS THE TUMOR MADE OF?

The tumor is made up of a mass of cells growing quickly in the brain, and in most cases patients have no family history of the disease.

It won’t spread to other organs, however, once it is diagnosed, it is nearly impossible to target, surgeons claim.

Unlike other types of brain cancer which are more specifically located, glioblastoma can occur in any part of the brain.

WHAT TREATMENT IS AVAILABLE?

Because the tumor likely already spread deep into the brain by the time it is diagnosed, the cancerous tissue is incredibly difficult to remove.

Surgeon will only ever remove the tumor, or part of the tumor, if it won’t do any damage to the surrounding brain tissue.

Dr Babcar Cisse, a neurosurgeon at the Weill Cornell Brain and Spine Center, told Daily Mail Online in July 2017: ‘By the time a glioblastoma is diagnosed, microfibers can spread to the rest of the brain which an MRI would not spot.

‘So even if the main tumor is removed and the patient receives radiation and chemotherapy, it will come back.’

GRADING A GLIOBLASTOMA

Brain tumors are graded from between one to four, depending on how fast they grow and how aggressive they are.

Malignant tumors are either given a high-grade three or four, while benign ones are given a lower grade one or two.

Glioblastoma is often referred to as a grade four astrocytoma – another form of brain tumor, says the AANS.

SYMPTOMS

Patients typically complain of symptoms such as confused vision, trouble with memory, dizziness and headaches.

The symptoms are somewhat nonspecific, and vary from person to person, and may not persist.

The disease is therefore impossible to diagnose based on symptoms alone.

Ulrika Jonsson has shared her heartbreak as her beloved rescue dog Leo starts his treatment for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia.

The TV star gave her 122k Instagram followers an update on Monday after revealing a week ago that her three-year-old bulldog had been diagnosed with cancer.

Sharing a photo of Leo’s medication she had to adminster, an emotional Ulrika told her fans that she was ‘questioning everything.’

‘Today my boy Leo started chemo,’ she wrote. ‘I’ve known it was coming but disassociated for various reasons.’

The star went on to share some facts about her dog, revealing he’s just three-years-old and his diagnosis is similar to her late dog Dexter who died at the age of four three years ago.

‘I already lost Dexter at the age of 4 – the treatment that was supposed to save him, effectively killed him,’ she explained.

‘I can’t bear the thought of this sh*t show,’ Ulrika continued. ‘I know someone out there is suffering considerably worse shows of sh*t. But what are the chances that I face losing a second? Boy.’

‘My emotions are loaded. Weirdly woke up this morning in a good mood. When does that happen?’

‘And then when it came to administering the stuff, I was welling up; began to lose my nerve; questioned everything.’

She finished her post by thanking her followers for their support, writing: ‘Please don’t feel the need to comment – I know you guys care. I don’t want empathy. I want a cure. But I know there isn’t one for him and at some point a sh*t decision will need to be made.’

‘For now. Leo, my darling boy: love; good food and CBD will be at your disposal.’

Leo has his own Instagram account with over a 1000 fans, with the proud star regularly sharing snaps of her pooch.

She has also rescued fellow bulldogs Nessie and Fella, but sadly revealed over the summer that 10-year-old Fella has been diagnosed with dementia.

Ulrika was meant to be fostering Fella for just two weeks, but couldn’t bring herself to let him go and eventually adopted him permanently in 2019.

She revealed that he came to her with a ‘mouth full of tumours’ as well as a broken jaw, arthritis and testicular cancer.

‘Over time, I’ve learnt that he has dementia. He looks at me without recognition sometimes. Sits and stares at doors or barks at walls unprovoked,’ she wrote in Best magazine in August.

‘On walks, he can forget what is happening, and just stops, or turns around and insists on going in the opposite direction. He doesn’t always respond to my name – but still knows what a T-R-E-A-T is.’

The presenter’s latest heartbreak comes after she hit out at those who criticised her for sharing a naked selfie on Thursday, including her own children, as she claimed ‘my body, my rules.’

On Tuesday, the TV presenter shared a naked selfie hours after TV host John Leslie was found not guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a Christmas party in 2008.

Detailing her decision to post the snap in her column for The Sun on Thursday, she said: ‘It was neither pre-planned nor especially well thought out. And it seems to have touched a nerve because the response was considerable.’

Ulrika explained that she didn’t post a more ‘explicit’ or ‘outrageous’ naked snap for the sake her children, though she was quick to point out that she didn’t care if they were concerned about the photo.

Addressing her four children, Cameron, 26, Bo, 20, Martha, 16, and Malcom, 12, she went on: ‘For the record, children, I honestly don’t care much for your embarrassment. My body, my rules.

‘The intention behind the post was not to offend, outrage, challenge or disturb. It was a note to myself – a reminder that for all that my body has endured, I now need to reclaim it and do something I’ve never really done before: Own it.’

Ulrika went on to say she felt ‘dispossessed’ when it came to her figure in the past as both puberty and the menopause hit her badly, and she also struggled with what to ‘expect or demand’ when she was intimate with a man.

She admitted to feeling ’embarrassed’ about showing her feelings with a member of the opposite sex and said she often felt she had to allow the man to take the control in a relationship, but now realises she ‘deserved ownership’ of her body.

Going on to discuss being sexually assaulted at the age of 19 by an unknown TV presenter who she met once, Ulrika lamented how at the time it was socially acceptable for a man to force themselves on their wife, meaning she believed she couldn’t stop the assault from happening to her.

In her naked selfie post, Ulrika wrote that she was ‘reclaiming her body’ but added: ‘reclaiming my mind is taking a bit more time.’

The post came hours after Leslie was cleared and Ulrika did not reference him at all.  He was falsely accused of raping Ulrika in 2002 – although not by the TV star.

Ex Blue Peter presenter John was found not guilty by a jury over claims he grabbed a woman’s breasts at a Christmas party in central London on December 5, 2008.

The woman said she came forward after being ‘inspired’ by the MeToo movement, but Leslie was cleared of sexual assault by a jury of nine men and three women after just 23 minutes deliberation.

Before the trial, Leslie had already been investigated an astonishing number of times over separate sexual assault allegations made to police since 2002, when he was falsely accused of raping Ulrika, who he dated for a few months.

Ulrika has never made any complaint to police. In her 2002 autobiography, Honest, Ulrika revealed she had been date raped by an unnamed TV presenter aged 19, she said she had only met the man one time.

John claimed he asked Ulrika to publicly say he was not her attacker, but she allegedly said she wouldn’t.

Leslie was falsely accused of raping Ulrika by the TV presenter Matthew Wright on air – he later apologised, saying he had given his name in error.

Other women have publicly accused John of similar seedy behaviour, while he has been the subject of salacious revelations about his sex life (including his starring role in a threesome sex tape with Abi Titmuss) and his use of cocaine.

A string of former Blue Peter presenters rallied around Leslie at his trial, with Anthea Turner, Diane Louise Jordan and Yvette Fielding taking to the stand to call him a ‘gentleman’ and deny he was ever inappropriate towards women.

Leslie has never been found guilty of any offence, but his own barrister claimed he had become a ‘notorious’ and a ‘nobody’ because of the repeated claims against him.

The former star, who once earned £350,000 a year, was last known to be living in an Edinburgh bungalow and doing DJ jobs to earn extra money.

Ulrika discussed her rape ordeal with Piers Morgan in 2009 and said her attacker suggested they go to the cinema after he had assaulted her.

She said: ‘I felt pain, physical pain. I just lay there. And he said “We should go to the cinema”.

‘I said “I can’t go”. I don’t remember what I said but I stayed and he left. I actually don’t think he realised what he’d done.’

She said of the incident: ‘I felt a bit foolish. I think that was the overwhelming feeling. I felt I’d allowed myself into a situation which I shouldn’t have. I blamed myself.’

Ulrika said the man, who was known to her, came to her hotel room to pick her up for a date.

She said: ‘He was charming and very nice and then things started to happen very quickly. He got very amorous and I panicked because to me that was not what I was expecting.

‘I panicked to the extent my voice wasn’t working – I couldn’t get anything out. I felt like I was screaming and saying “No, no, no!” I probably was at the beginning.’

The former weathergirl said she was not sexually experienced at the time.

Fighting back tears, she said: ‘One of the great weaknesses I’ve had is this inability to assert myself properly.

‘I’d only been sexually active for about a year and a half so this was quite an overwhelming experience.’

‘I don’t think at that stage there was this definition of a ‘date rape’ – of knowing somebody, of trusting somebody and somebody not understanding when you say no.’

However, Ulrika said the full horror of the violation struck her only when she was forced to seek medical treatment.

‘The fact that I ended up in hospital because it was not consensual meant that this was clearly an aggressive act,’ she said.

She admitted she held back from calling the police because she blamed herself.

In August 2003 Leslie said: ‘I was not damned by anything Ulrika said – I was damned by her silence.

‘With one simple statement she could have resolved this one way or another. If she had said “John Leslie did not rape me,” that would have put an end to it. If she had said “John Leslie did rape me,” I I could have defended myself.

‘As human beings, what separates us from animals is a core sense of decency for other people and for her not to say anything at that stage was inhuman and something I can never forgive her for.

‘Through lawyers, I asked her to please make some sort of clarification – not to get me off the hook but just to let me know exactly what I was dealing with.

‘Instead, she took the third way – she said nothing. Why, why, why?’

In the interview, Ulrika admitted it was a “bad mistake” to reveal the attacker was a TV presenter.

She said: ‘The point was the act of violence against me and not who it was that did it. If I had wanted that person’s name to come out, I’d have done something about it when it happened.’

She admitted to some sympathy for Leslie, whose career was ruined. Ulrika said: ‘I’ve never commented about him but what I would say is trial by media is awful.’

On Thursday, Ulrika sparked concern among fans after admitting she felt ‘lonely for the very first time in my entire life’ following an ‘intensely bad’ day.

She took to Instagram and shared a sombre selfie in the dark as she told her followers about her low mood.

She wrote: ‘Started yesterday by cleaning my teeth with Nivea, so kinda knew what kinda day lay ahead. Intense. Intensely bad. And some good.

‘Hygienist couldn’t use her machines so reverted to a pestle and mortar and I still managed a 10 min kip in her chair.

‘Lots of pressure from deadlines. Felt a bit overwhelmed but soldiered on. Weather grim. Grimmer than Grimsby (which is gorge btw).

‘Actually felt lonely for the very first time in my entire life yesterday. Happy alone but never lonely.

‘Saved by a phone call from a gobby friend who made me laugh, as always. #thelonelinessofthefreelancewriter’.
