EastEnders star Jake Wood has been tipped for an appearance on the forthcoming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!

The actor, 48, confirmed on Thursday that he is leaving the long-running BBC soap in December after 15-years as Cockney wide boy Max Branning.

And the surprise decision could see him trade urban Walford for rural Wales when I’m A Celeb relocates to the remote – and reportedly haunted – Gwrych Castle in Conway County Borough.

The timing is also thought to be ideal, with Max’s departure expected to be filmed before the endurance based reality show kicks off in November.

Betting giant Ladbrokes have already placed odds of 3-1 on his involvement, with spokesperson Alex Apati telling The Sun: ‘With his time on the Square coming to an end, we reckon I’m A Celeb chiefs could be about to snap him up.’

Jake already has reality TV experience having previously appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, reaching the semi-final stage of the competition.

The actor first joined the EastEnders cast in 2006, and has faced his fair share of drama, including womanising, a secret marriage and even being framed for murder.

Confirming his departure in a statement, Jake said: ‘I’ve had 15 wonderful years at EastEnders and have made some truly great friends.

‘I’ll of course miss everyone there but I’m grateful they have left the door open for Max and I’m excited to see what the next chapter holds.’

Executive producer Jon Sen also praised Jake’s contribution to the soap, saying: ‘Jake is a truly wonderful actor and EastEnders have been extremely lucky to have him for so long.

‘We have a big storyline for Max that starts in the coming weeks and we are all very excited to see that play out.’

Jake’s final scenes are expected to air later this year, as EastEnders fans gear up for the soap’s much-anticipated Christmas storylines.

On his exit an insider told Digital Spy: ‘Sometimes in Soapland big characters have to leave.

‘Bosses are staying tight-lipped about what they have planned for Max, but considering he has played a major part in the show for over 15 years, they are clearly planning something big and he will not be departing Walford quietly.

‘Everyone will be sad to see Jake go as he is not only a great person to have on set but he’s also a fantastic actor.’

His departure comes after Jake took a year-long break from the soap in 2015 to spend more time with his family, with his exit coinciding with Max being wrongfully jailed for Lucy Beale’s murder.

Max then returned to Walford set on revenge, but his plot for payback went a step too far, leading to the death of his daughter Abi on Christmas Day 2017 after falling off the roof of the Queen Vic pub.

Since EastEnders returned to screens last week, fans have been Max embroiled in a nasty feud with Ian Beale, after he cheated him out of his share of the proceeds from selling half of Walford East.

He also took centre stage in EastEnders’ iconic 2007 Christmas Special, when his affair with daughter-in-law Stacey was revealed, leaving his wife Tanya devastated.

In 2010 he was left distraught when his son Bradley was tragically killed during the soap’s 25th Anniversary special, before learning seconds later that Stacey had murdered Archie Mitchell after weeks of theories among fans.

Max faced a turbulent relationship with wife Tanya, and despite attempting to rekindle their relationship after she was diagnosed with cancer, she was furious to learn he’d secretly married another woman.

He’s also long been known for his womanising ways, and along with his secret liaisons with now-dead Lucy, he also had an on-off affair with Stacey, and most recently her best friend Ruby Allen.

dax shepard reveals hes been secretly battling a painkiller addiction

Dax Shepard has admitted he recently relapsed while celebrating 16 years of sobriety.

On the Friday episode of his podcast Armchair Expert, the 45-year-old, discussed his history with painkillers and how he recently found himself battling a dependence on the pills again and keeping it a secret from those closest to him.

He admitted he felt immense guilt about hiding ‘this enormous secret’ and expressed regret for ‘gaslighting’ his wife Kristen Bell, and podcast co-host, Monica Padman.

Dax Shepard (pictured Wednesday) has admitted he has been battling an addiction to painkillers. He had recently celebrated 16 years sobriety with his family

In the episode entitled ‘Day 7’ in reference to being seven day’s sober when it was recorded on September 21, the actor began to explain what has been going on.

‘I felt so terrible about the lying,’ he said, adding, ‘I was just very scared and I felt very, very lonely.’

The father-of-two said he was very proud of his making it 16 years with no alcohol or cocaine – and added that during his recent relapse he had no desire to take those substances.

Shepard said the problems started around six months ago after injuring his hand and shoulder, and then he suffered another bike accident in August. He said he noticed he started ‘getting shadier and shadier.’

‘And I’ve not ever yet bought them,’ he said. ‘And then I do…For the last eight weeks maybe, I don’t know…I’m on them all day. I’m allowed to be on them at some dosage because I have a prescription.

‘And then I’m also augmenting that. And then all the prescriptions run out and I’m now just taking 30 mil Oxys that I’ve bought whenever I decide I can do [it].’

'I felt so terrible about the lying,' Shepard, 45, said, adding, 'I was just very scared and I felt very, very lonely.' he also admitted to gaslighting Bell (pictured on Wednesday) and podcast co-host Monica Padman as he hid his problem from them

Shepard didn’t think there was a big problem because he was managing his day-to-day responsibilities.

But his podcast co-host confronted him and he began lying to her.

‘And I’m lying to other people and I know I have to quit,’ he confessed. “But my tolerance is going up so quickly that I’m now in a situation where I’m taking, you know, eight 30s a day, and I know that’s an amount that’s going to result in a pretty bad withdrawal.

‘And I start getting really scared, and I’m starting to feel really lonely. And I just have this enormous secret.’

He tried to lower his dosage but didn’t stick to the schedule he made for himself.

‘I now start getting pretty visibly detoxy and withdrawly,’ he said. ‘And I lie and start saying I’m having an arthritis flare up.’

One day he was in the car with Padman and he finally admitted his problem.

‘I’m gaslighting you and I know I am,’ he told her. ‘And I’m making you feel crazy and I’m making Kristen feel crazy.’

He then admitted everything to Bell and Padman and followed up with a Alcoholics Anonymous meeting where he cried as he revealed what had happened.

‘It was very emotional, he said about the meeting. ‘It was a really surreal kind of experience.

‘When it was over, I actually, mentally – for the first time in a very long time – felt optimistic,’ he explained.

‘Because for the last – a long time – I’ve known intellectually that things were going to get worse, that each encounter with it has gotten more shady and more dangerous. And I recognize that the next go-round would be “Oh, I can’t get pills, let’s snort heroin.”‘

Reflecting on his sobriety journey Shepard said, ‘The huge gift that the 16 years did give me was, I used to be able to gaslight people daily, and it didn’t bother me,

‘And I’ve had a good 15 1/2 years, or maybe more, of maybe not gaslighting people, and I just don’t have that tolerance for it.’

Shepard admitted his problems began when his father passed away in 2012 and then came back again about six months ago when Shepard was having issues with his hand and shoulder.

‘Eight years into sobriety, I had not done a single shady thing,’ he recalled of that year. ‘I hadn’t done anything gray.’

It was a difficult year for Shepard, he had been visiting his father who was undergoing cancer treatment in hospital. He also suffered a motorcycle accident on his way to the Parenthood set.

‘I immediately called my sponsor, and I said, “I’m in a ton of pain and I gotta work all day. And we have friends that have Vicodin,”‘ Shepard recalled.

‘He said, “OK, you can take a couple Vicodin to get through the day of work, but you have to go to the doctor, and you have to get a prescription, and then you have to have Kristen [Bell] dole out the prescription.”‘

The CHiPs star said he followed the advice but at one point he had to travel, without wife Kristen Bell, to see his dad.

Without his pills, Shepard says he ended up taking some Percocet – double the dose he would take of his usual pills – after giving his sick father a dose.

‘You know, we had so little in common and so much f**king friction,’ Shepard remembered.

‘But the no. 1 thing we had in common was we were both f**king addicts and we had never used anything together. And we sat there stoned and looked at the lake. And in that moment, I felt elation and I was just happy.’

On September 1 the Bless This Mess actor’s family rallied around him as he marked 16 years sober.

Bell took to Instagram to praise her other half for his hard work and dedication.

The Good Place star, 40, wasn’t the only one giving Shepard congrats, she also shared a precious ‘Happy Sobriety Birthday’ card one of their daughters made for their dad in the post.

‘Happy Sobriety Birthday Dady,’ their youngster scrawled in red marker. On the back she added the Harry Potter character Ron Weasley and a red heart-shaped balloon.

Bell – who has been married to Shepard since 2013 – didn’t say whether daughter Delta, five, or Lincoln, seven, was responsible for the sweet note.

She joined in the praise in her caption, writing: ‘Today is my husband’s 16th sobriety birthday. My daughter woke him up with this sign, and a sketch of the one and only Ronald Weasley(absolutely random, and also perfect).’

‘Happy birthday Daxy. Thank you for dedicating your life to the hard and wonderful work of sobriety, so that we could share it with you.

She then signed the note with everyone’s initials, writing: ‘Xo K, L & D.’

Maya said: ‘I definitely think I’m resilient. Sometimes I surprise myself, because there’s been a few times…

He raps: ‘Fast forward now, my nephew’s still asking for his Auntie Maya, guess this is the karma for what I done to Maya.

‘I just stood and let it burn, I couldn’t down the fire. Lord, I pray you make it easy, that’s my one desire.’

Serena Williams has quite a weekend ahead of her.

On Saturday, the tennis champ will celebrate her 38th birthday and just one day later she is set to play in the first round of the French Open.

But, none of those things stopped her from taking a break from training to enjoy some snuggle time with her three-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia in a new Instagram post on Friday.

‘Fun times,’ the all time great captioned her latest Instagram post.

Serena shared two snaps with her daughter taken at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy where she has been preparing for the French Open.

In the first snap the mother of one looked down at her little girl adoringly while the toddler was sprawled on a small trampoline.

The second sees the mother-daughter-duo locked in a sweet embrace with Serena planting a kiss on her daughter while she looked up at the camera.

Williams has been hard at work, preparing to face fellow American Kristie Ahn in the first round of the French Open women’s singles on Sunday. Meanwhile her sister Venus will be facing off against Anna Karolina Schmiedlová.

Serena recently shared one of the tricks she uses to help get her body ready to play and it is quite chilling.

The star was pictured grimacing while stepping into a frigid ice bath at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.

The Academy captioned the shot: ‘If you’re not making this face when entering an ice bath, are you even doing ice bath?’

Like the Olympic gold medalist that she is, Serena managed to ignore the pain from the icy waters and flash a megawatt smile to the camera.

The French Open is following strict health and safety protocols due to the COVID-19 pandemic after its original date was delayed for the same reason.

Unlike the recent US Open, the French Open isn’t using the typical American ‘bubble’ model and will allow fans to sit socially distanced in the stands.

'Up to four people in a single party will be able to sit adjacent to one another. Seats on the outside courts will be open, but there will have to be at least one empty seat between spectators,' ESPN reported about safety protocols (Pictured at the US Open)

Adding: ‘Everyone older than 11 will have to wear a mask or face covering at all times, and there will be hand sanitizer dispensers installed all around the stadium.’

Also, unlike at the US Open when Serena and other elite players stayed in private residences, players can only stay in one of two designated hotels in Paris, according to Yahoo.

During the US Open, Serena was cheered on in the stands by her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, their daughter.
