Halsey took to social media Sunday to share her recent conversation with Senator Bernie Sanders about the US presidential election and the wealth tax.

The 26-year-old singer posted the talk with Sanders, 79, for her roughly 21.4 million followers on Instagram and her 13.5 million followers on Twitter.

The post opened with a title card reading, ‘On September 30, 2020 Halsey and Senator Bernie Sanders sat down for an intimate conversation to discuss the future of America, some of the most important issues facing our nation, and why they’ll be voting for Joe Biden this November.’

Halsey wore a buttoned up pink dress and accessorized with matching earrings for her conversation with Sanders, the junior US Senator from Vermont.

She opened by asking the former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate if she should call him ‘Bernie’ or ‘Senator Sanders’ and he said, ‘Bernie is fine’.

Halsey said she was hoping to get information to the young people and was trying to do her best with the platform she’s amassed as an entertainer.

‘So yesterday there was a debate. It was arguably one of the most frustrating pieces of television that I’ve ever ad the misfortune of witnessing,’ Halsey said about the debate last week between President Trump, 74, and Democratic nominee Biden, 77.

She asked Sanders for his thoughts on the debate and he agreed with her assessment.

‘It certainly was not one of the great moments in American history,’ Sanders said.

He said it was important to not get sidetracked by that kind of spectacle and instead focus on issues important to Americans

Halsey said one of the greater struggles was how the election and events surrounding it ‘were unfolding more like a reality television show and less like a real serious event that will impact 300 million lives’.

The Closer singer also shared that she grew up in a ‘lower-class family’ and that her parents dropped out of college to have her.

She said her father is a person of color and her mother is white and she grew up in ‘really under-privileged situations’.

‘Now, as an adult at 26 years old I’m part of the one-percent,’ Halsey said added that her shift in perspective has made one thing clear to her personally.

‘There is no amount of money that I think is worth personally contributing to the alienation, the disenfranchisement of millions, hundreds of millions of people across this country. Which is why despite being in the one percent, I support the wealth tax. Because I believe that the people who oppose it are motivated by greed,’ Halsey said.

She said that her income doesn’t compare to that of billionaires and the only reason the super rich oppose the wealth tax is due to greed.

Sanders said that greed was a form of addiction and called out drug companies for putting profits over people.

‘We have an economy that is controlled by people who are incredibly greedy. They want more and more and more, so that we end up with three people in America owning more wealth than the bottom half of our society. Three people. The top one percent owns more wealth than the bottom 92 percent,’ Sanders added.

‘We must eradicate billionaires. It’s just an absolutely preposterous concept,’ Halsey said.

Halsey said she believed that a Biden administration would protect marginalized communities and Sanders said that Biden has a ‘great deal of empathy’ and that he is ‘more than aware of the suffering that is taking place in our country right now’.

why the bachelorettes james boggia really became a stage five clinger

Fans of The Bachelorette were left surprised this week by the apparently sudden change in James Boggia’s personality heading into hometown week.

The 28-year-old wakeboarder was overcome with jealousy when he discovered that fellow contestant Joe Woodbury had ‘hooked up’ with Elly Miles before the show.

While his behaviour on Wednesday and Thursday’s episodes seemingly came out of nowhere, a source told gossip website The Wash that it wasn’t that out of character.

A production source said: ‘James was an alpha in the mansion from the very start. He was cool at first with the rest of the guys, but then got comfortable and started to kind of take control in most situations.

‘As more time passed, he got jealous when anyone else spent time with the girls – and the others found it weird considering the premise of the show.’

They added: ‘It was like he felt he was being left behind as they all started making serious connections so he upped the ante a bit. It was exactly as it looks on TV.’

The focus of Elly’s storyline this week was on her history with labourer Joe, with whom she’d spent a romantic weekend before her foray into reality TV.

Several of the other suitors were upset by this revelation because they felt Joe, 25, had an unfair advantage, but no one was more annoyed than James.

In several scenes, he seemed to be brimming with anger and exerting all of his will power to maintain his composure.

After expressing concern that his rivals were forming stronger connections with Elly, he decided to take matters into his own hands by writing her a love letter.

He read the letter aloud to her at Thursday’s cocktail party, but was widely mocked by viewers who compared it to ‘Bec Hewitt’s wedding poem’.

One fan tweeted that ‘he sounded like a fifth grader reading a love letter to his crush,’ while another said: ‘James’ love letter was a straight copy and paste from the book of “‘How to Sound Genuine.”‘

Despite the backlash, his efforts were successful and he ended up receiving a rose.

The Bachelorette continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 10

The Aussie meat pie has long been a favourite among cricket players and fans alike.

But Michael Clarke shocked fans when tucked into a classic Four’n Twenty pie while hosting his Big Sports Breakfast radio show on Thursday morning.

The former Australian cricket captain, who is known for his fit and healthy lifestyle, treated himself during a break in the program at around 8.30am.

The sportsman, 39, was stunned to see a pie warmer in the tea room and grabbed a hot flaky pie to go.

Later in the day, Michael suited up and was transported to the yacht by a steward via a small boat to greet his girlfriend Pip Edwards, 40, during a photo shoot for her activewear brand P.E Nation.

Michael was dressed in a crisp white shirt and a pair of black slacks, but he later changed into a beige T-shirt and a pair of shorts.

Once reunited the pair put on quite the PDA – kissing and canoodling for all to see.

While Michael and Pip have made their relationship known on Instagram, the Everest Racing Carnival last Saturday was their first in public event following Michael’s split from ex-wife Kyly Clarke, 39, in February.

They were romantically linked just days after it was confirmed that he had split from Kyly earlier this year, following seven years of marriage.

After months of insisting they were just friends, Pip confirmed they were together in July by sharing a series of loved-up photos to Instagram.

Michael is notoriously private, and while he’s usually hesitant to provide details about his new life with Pip, he did recently say he couldn’t be happier.

‘In regards to me personally? I’m so happy right now,’ he told Stellar magazine last month. ‘I’m in a great place. That’s all I can ask for.’

Michael separated from Kyly in September last year, but they waited until February 12 before confirming their split in a statement.

In April, Kyly said she was on good terms with her former partner, who she shares four-year-old daughter Kelsey with.

Kyly certainly isn’t heartbroken though, as she has reportedly found love again with Supercars driver James Courtney.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the model was spotted kissing the race car driver trackside in Bathurst last week, ahead of the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 this weekend.

‘It is early days, but they are very happy,’ a source said.

For his many, many fans it’s been a long wait, but now Grantchester’s dishy crime-fighting vicar is back.

In somewhat less than clerical garb, Tom Brittney, 29, was spotted filming scenes for the sixth series of the ITV drama earlier this week.

Dressed in a tight, white vest and covered in car grease, his character – Reverend Will Davenport – showed he was a dab hand as a mechanic as he worked on a vintage vehicle.

Tom, who took over the role from James Norton in season four and left legions of admirers swooning, was last seen in Grantchester at the beginning of this year.

The new series, being filmed on a Covid secure set, will be broadcast next year.

It will resume in 1958 and will see the vicar and DI Geordie Keating, played by Robson Green, team up once again to solve crimes.

The show is adapted from the Grantchester Mysteries novels by James Runcie.

Tessa Peake-Jones is expected to return as Miss Chapman and Al Weaver will once again play Leonard Finch, while Kacey Ainsworth (Cathy Keating), Oliver Dimsdale (Daniel Marlowe) and Nick Brimble (Jack Chapman) will also reprise their roles .

ITV have also confirmed a number of special guest stars for the series, including Jemma Redgrave, Gary Beadle, Dominic Mafham, Rachael Stirling and Rebecca Front.

ITV hinted that the new series will first see drama unfold at a holiday camp, saying: ‘In the first episode of the new series, Geordie, Cathy and their family, Will, Leonard and Mrs C take a much needed holiday together.

‘However, what sets out to be a fun-filled break for everyone at a holiday camp, is interrupted by a tragic death at the resort.

‘Geordie and Will are left with no choice but to help out, as an investigation into the death begins. As events unfold on the trip, there will be serious repercussions for the rest of the series.’
