The last thing Maisie Smith wanted on Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing was an imperfect routine – having narrowly escaped elimination last week.

But unfortunately for her, pro partner Gorka Marquez nearly dropped her, after she backflipped during the salsa.

The EastEnders star, 19, improved massively on last week’s performance, but following the flip Gorka lost his grip, and she landed unsteadily.

All three judges pointed out the slip-up, with Craig Revel Horwood saying: ‘It was a bit unfortunate about the bad landing but I’m blaming your partner.’

Gorka held his hands up and admitted it was his fault.

Anton Du Beke deemed the dance ‘marvelous’ and ‘terrific’ regardless and the judges awarded them a trio of 9s.

This is Maisie’s highest score of the season.

She described being in the bottom two last week, and only narrowly surviving elimination, as ‘the worst feeling on the planet!’ in the VT before her dance.

She had already admitted to feeling ‘nervous’ just hours before Saturday night’s live show.

She shared her fear with her 834,000 Instagram fans while getting ready to take to the floor and dance to Meghan Trainor’s Better When I’m Dancing.

Posting on her Instagram stories, a silly selfie saw Maisie and her professional dance partner Gorka Marquez pulling exaggerated anxious faces as they waited on the Strictly set for the show to get underway.

Maisie donned a paisley patterned gold headband and opted for a high-coverage make-up look as she admitted she was ‘nervous’ after a week of rehearsals.

She wore her ginger tresses styled in a half-up half-down hairdo and had tightly braided sections of her length locks away from her face.

Meanwhile, Gorka flaunted his toned physique in a vibrant tropical patterned shirt, which he playfully wore unbuttoned as he pulled a silly face at the camera.

Maisie admitted she was feeling worried about her passionate salsa ahead of the live show, penning alongside the playful snap: ‘Feeling those Saturday night nerves.’

Last week she was in the bottom two alongside Max George and Dianne Buswell.

Maisie earned a respectable 24 with her Cha Cha, but still found herself dancing to save her place in the competition, much to the shock of viewers.

But it was The Wanted star, 32, and his Australian partner, 31, who were eliminated from the series after dancing the American Smooth to It Had to Be You.

Craig and Anton voted to keep Maisie in the competition – while head judge Shirley Ballas voted for Max.

But it was later revealed that absent judge Motsi Mabuse, who was replaced by ballroom dancer Anton as she isolated after an ‘urgent’ trip to Germany, said that if she had been in the judging seat, she would have saved Max and sent Maisie home.

The close call reportedly left the actress feeling shaken and she apparently had to be comforted by her fellow Strictly co-stars after taking the vote ‘to heart’.

A source told The Sun: ‘Poor Maisie has been so upset – she’s been crying all night and has really taken it to heart. She’s young and living away from home for the first time so it’s hard on her.’

The insider went on to say that the young actress had the support of her fellow celebrity contestants and professional dancers as they attempted to cheer her up.

They added: ‘The show’s dancers and the other celebs have been rallying around and trying to lift her spirits.’

Following the result, former Strictly pro Kevin Clifton claimed that Maisie was a victim of sexism after landing in the dance-off on Sunday.

Kevin, who danced with Maisie in the 2019 Children In Need special, shared his shock and his theory on why it had happened.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, he wrote: ‘People love a confident/ talented/ successful man but a confident girl gets labelled cocky.’

Maisie told fans that she usually trains eight hours a day for the weekly dance show, but added that she and Gorka sometimes have to train for up to 10 hours.

She admitted that she is ‘slow at learning everything’ because her ‘brain just doesn’t work after about 4pm’.

The actress also said last weekend’s Cha Cha was her favourite routine – despite having to face the dreaded dance-off.

She added: ‘I guess that got me in the bottom two. But I loved it. I had the best time of my life and I loved being Barbie for a day. That was wicked.’

Since her disappointment last week, Maisie has been determined to do well this weekend and has been spotted leaving rehearsals after several gruelling hours of dance training.

Strictly Come Dancing airs its results show from 7:25PM on Sunday on BBC One.

While the film is yet to be officially titled, a production insider has revealed Dominic was the obvious choice to play the film’s lead character,  ‘Bulldog’.

It is understood casting producers are trying to ink deals with American stars Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes to also star in the film.

According to the insider, Deborra-Lee Furness has expressed interest in the film’s script and will likely to also be involved in the production.

The news comes just days after Dominic backed out of plans of ever making a sixth season in solidarity of his co-star Wentworth Miller.

Sharing a statement to his Instagram account on November 10, Dominic explained: ‘I cannot persuade, nor would I even attempt to persuade him to betray his truth.

‘So, that’s it, six isn’t gonna happen, and if it does happen it’s not gonna happen with myself or Wentworth because I’m loyal to Wentworth.’

Wentworth, 48, explained that he has no intentions of returning to the show or playing any other straight characters for that matter.

‘I’m out. Of PB. Officially. Not because of static on social media (although that has centered the issue). I just don’t want to play straight characters. Their stories have been told (and told),’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘So. No more Michael. If you were a fan of the show, hoping for additional seasons… I understand this is disappointing. I’m sorry. If you’re hot and bothered bec you fell in love with a fictional straight man played by a real gay one… That’s your work. – W.M.’

Miller starred alongside Dominic Purcell in the Fox series, which ran for four seasons and a TV movie from 2005 to 2009, before returning for another season in 2017.

kelly clarkson appears to hint at what led to her divorce from brandon blackstock

She shocked fans with news of her divorce earlier this year.

But Kelly Clarkson appeared to hint at a possible reason behind her split from Brandon Blackstock.

Reflecting on all she was thankful for this past year on her eponymous talk show, Kelly said, ‘I’m grateful in 2020 for the lesson I learned about… myself.’

She added: ‘Even at 38, I feel like I’m always changing and progressing in a good sense, in a good way. And I always want to make sure I’m being the best version of myself.’

Kelly also revealed that her mother Jeanne had always been a big influence on her decisions.

She said: ‘My mom has been telling me since I was a kid: you are who you surround yourself with.

‘You want to make sure you’re surrounded by people that also want to be the best versions of themselves and also want a good common goal for everyone, not just themselves, right?

‘People, like, could be bad for you in a certain time. And I think that everybody just goes, “Oh, well that means they’re bad.” Well it doesn’t necessarily mean that, it just means that you’re on different paths. And I think that that’s okay.

‘Everybody’s on a different learning curve.’

Kelly filed for divorce from Brandon earlier this year after seven years of marriage and two children together.

The singer previously said she was not going to be fully transparent about the split on account of the two children she shares with Brandon, daughter River, six, and son Remington, four.

The pop star told the Los Angeles Times in September: ‘I am a very open person, but I’m not going to be able to be truly open about this in certain aspects because there’s kids involved.’

Since the split, Kelly has been keeping busy with her career.

On top of hosting The Kelly Clarkson Show, she is also a coach on The Voice.

Emma Roberts is ready to give birth any day now, as she prepares to welcome her first child, along with partner Garrett Hedlund.

But the former Nickelodeon star is keeping occupied ahead of her due date, enjoying the holidays with family.

She wrapped her baby bump in nautical stripes with a preppy chic maternity look Wednesday, as she ran some last minute Thanksgiving errands in Los Angeles.

The 29-year-old complemented the top with an oversized rust orange blazer and a pair of skintight black leggings.

She finished the ensemble with a pair of black cat-eye sunglasses, a matching face mask and some black Birkenstock sandals.

Roberts announced her pregnancy on Instagram in August, showing off her baby bump in a white dress, with Hedlund, 36, to whom she was first romantically linked last March.

She also revealed the gender in the post, captioning their first family photos: ‘Me…and my two favorite guys.’

A source told Us Weekly earlier this month of the parents-to-be: ‘Emma and Garrett are getting more and more excited, which is so nice for them.

‘Garrett is really looking forward to becoming a dad and feels as though this is something he needed. He is ready to take on all the daddy duties, and Emma getting pregnant has forced him to become more responsible. He thinks that’s a blessing.’

The Holidate actress has since made history, becoming the first pregnant Cosmopolitan cover star, posing in a stylish maternity shoot for the December/January issue.

She admitted in the interview that she always wanted to be a mother: ‘Ever since I was little, I wanted to have a baby, in theory.

‘When I was a kid, I begged my mom to have another baby. The day she brought my sister home from the hospital, I remember holding her, wanting to dress and play with her.’

Roberts also revealed that she had her eggs frozen, when she was diagnosed with endometriosis, after switching to a female doctor.

She added: ‘It sounds cheesy, but the moment that I stopped thinking about it, we got pregnant. But even then, I didn’t want to get my hopes up. Things can go wrong when you’re pregnant. That’s something you don’t see on Instagram.

‘So I kept it to myself, my family, and my partner, not wanting to make grand plans if it wasn’t going to work out. This pregnancy made me realize that the only plan you can have is that there is no plan.’
