super agent kia joorabchian slams arsenals past recruitment as he defends his role on transfers

Super-agent Kia Joorabchian has launched an attack at Arsenal‘s past recruitment policy under Sven Mislintat, blaming the club’s former chief scout for a number of very expensive ‘cock-ups’.

In an interview with talkSPORT, Joorabchian denied having any undue influence over transfers at the Emirates before taking aim at Mislintat, who worked for the Gunners from 2017 to 2019.

The 49-year-old is known to have close relationships with several members of Arsenal’s hierarchy, most notably with head of football Raul Sanllehi and technical director Edu, who have helped bring in a number of big signings in the past year.

David Luiz and Cedric Soares are among those who has joined the club during the past year, while Willian is set to become the next big name to join the club, after the Brazilian completed his medical with the Gunners on Thursday.

Another of Joorabchian’s clients, Philippe Coutinho, has also been linked with a move to the Emirates but the club insist the Brazilian is not a target of theirs.

Joorabchian has often been spotted in one of the directors’ boxes at the Emirates in recent months and has often spoken out on the club’s transfer policy.

His latest interview saw him defend his position while pointing the blame at Mislintat for past transfers.

‘People forget about the previous guy, Sven,’ Joorabchian said.

‘He made a bunch of, I don’t like to use the word, but, cock-ups with players he brought in at very, very large numbers.’

Joorabchian also confirmed that he expects Willian’s move to be concluded shortly.

He added: ‘It won’t be long before we announce it. We know where he is going.’

Mislintat arrived at Arsenal with an excellent reputation having brought the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele to Borussia Dortmund.

After taking the job in north London, Mislintat then used his links at Dortmund to bring Aubameyang, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sokratis Papastathopoulos with him to the club.

However, he stepped down from his role two years later following a breakdown in relations with Sanllehi before citing agents’ growing influences as a personal frustration.

In June, he described the club as ‘dysfunctional’ and ‘an absolute mess’ in a scathing attack on the club.

Mislintat has since returned to Germany with Stuttgart, where he is the sporting director.
