CHELSEA star Fikayo Tomori snubbed a loan move to West Ham just TEN MINUTES before the deadline to fight for a spot under Frank Lampard.

The two clubs had agreed to a loan fee and the division of wages – with the deal on the brink of going through.

But Tomori, 22, decided at 10.50pm he would prefer to stay and fight for a spot at Stamford Bridge.

It was a major, late blow to West Ham, who also missed out on two other top defensive targets in James Tarkowski and Antonio Rudiger.

Tomori was a huge part of Lampard‘s team at Derby in 2018-19.

And when the former Rams chief took over in West London, Tomori started off as first-choice defender.

But Tomori suddenly faded from Lampard’s plans – and has featured just once in the Premier League this season, in the 2-0 loss at home to Liverpool.

Tomori played 22 times for Chelsea in all competitions last season but played just ONCE after the turn of the year.

The one-cap England star was also on the radar of Everton this summer.

However, Carlo Ancelotti cooled his interest as the Toffees chief focused on his midfield and attacking ranks.

Meanwhile, Chelsea missed out on one of their top targets, Declan Rice, with the Hammers standing firm all summer.

Lampard had made it clear he wanted to sign the ex-Blues youngster to play in the heart of defence, rather than as a defensive midfielder.

Elsewhere, the Stamford Bridge side loaned out Ruben Loftus-Cheek to neighbours Fulham in a bid to help the England man recapture his top form.

Loftus-Cheek has struggled to find his feet since recovering from an Achilles injury sustained in May 2019 against New England Revolution.

A minute’s silence in memory of Wisten was observed at St George’s Park before the semi-final cup tie got underway.

A number of the young players who featured in the competition have donated to a crowdfund created to support Wisten’s family.

The page was created by a close friend of his relatives.

Raheem Sterling and Aymeric Laporte was among those to have paid tribute to Wisten on social media.

The City and England forward tweeted using prayer and rose emojis, while his team-mate said: ‘Horrible news… RIP young man.’

Wisten, a Malawi-born defender, moved to the UK with his family as a child and joined City in 2016. He featured for the club’s elite youth squads before leaving in December 2018.

Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood dedicated his first Champions League goal in midweek to Wisten, with the clearly-emotional 19-year-old falling to his knees and pointing to the sky.

He later took to Twitter to post: ‘That one was for you bro. RIP Jeremy Wisten.’

MANCHESTER CITY women boss, Gareth Taylor, revealed Pep Guardiola has been sharing his pearls of wisdom ahead of the FA Cup final.

The Citizens are looking to defend their trophy as they take on Everton at Wembley on Sunday afternoon for the mouthwatering showpiece.

The women will face off for the 2019-20 final that was supposed to be played out in May, but had to be postponed amid the coronavirus crisis.

Taylor has been racking the brains of Etihad boss, Guardiola, who led the men’s side to victory in a historic 6-0 thrashing over Watford last year.

They completed the first domestic clean sweep by a male team but the women had ALREADY reached that milestone.

Pep has been closely following the women’s progress this year in in the lead up to their big day at the national stadium.

Taylor said: “I like to speak to a lot of people. I managed to speak to the manager, Pep, a couple of weeks ago.

“And the first thing he asked me was, ‘when is the final!?’, so you know it’s great that he’s keeping an avid interest in it as well.

“He has been hugely supportive, considering the amount of games and the heavy schedule that they’ve got on their plate, playing Champions League and then back to the Premier League.

“That’s the beauty of being at City. It really does feel like a family, and everyone’s really behind us and supporting us and wanting us to do well.”

In 2019 Pep brutally shutdown a reporter ahead of the men’s FA Cup final, who said: “You’ve got the prospect of winning the first ever domestic treble in this country.

To which the Spanish boss coolly replied: “The first time for the men. The women have won it.”

Everton chief Carlo Ancelotti arranged a video call with women’s manager Willie Kirk this week to wish him and his side good luck.

The Italian boss, who lifted the FA Cup trophy in 2010 with Chelsea, told Kirk: “To play the final is always exciting. In Italy we used to say, ‘you don’t have to play the final, you have to win the final!’

“It is a great achievement to play a final of the FA Cup. Good memories, fantastic atmosphere.

“I will have to record the game because you play at the same time as us! We are all behind you.”

You can watch live coverage of the Women’s FA Cup final on Sunday 1 November, on BBC One, iPlayer and BBC Sport, with kick off 2.30pm.

eriksen tells denmark fan to ask boss conte why he isnt getting regular game time at inter milan

Out of favour Christian Eriksen says only boss Antonio Conte can explain why the he isn’t getting regular game time at Inter Milan.

The Danish midfielder has struggled to gain favour with the Italian manager since joining from Tottenham in January.

Eriksen has featured in the last four games for the Italian side but failed to complete 90 minutes on each occasion and he voiced his frustration during a Q&A session organised by the Denmark FA on Thursday.

According to football-italia.net when Eriksen was asked by a fan why he is not playing on a regular basis under Conte he replied: ‘This must be asked to the coach.

‘Call him and talk to him, because he is the one who makes decisions. Ups and downs are always there in football, there are only a few ones out there who have always highs.’

‘I’ve become better at not thinking about [criticism], because everyone has an opinion.

‘Especially now that I’ve moved to Italy, where everyone has an opinion. It’s about trusting those around you and not hearing the rest.’

During the international break earlier this month Eriksen had warned Conte that he is not happy sitting on the bench at Inter.

‘I don’t want to sit the bench for the whole season’, he said.

‘I hope this isn’t the coach’s or the club’s intention. It is going to be a busy season, lot of games in program, I expect to play.

‘It’s never nice to sit the bench and one tends to be less patient as his experience grows.’

He continued: ‘There are many expectations on me, people thought I’d do the difference in every game, but it didn’t happen.

‘That’s why they are looking at me with different eyes.

‘I’ve had highs and lows after the lockdown. I had a great start with Inter after I arrived and now I am living in a new situation.’
