Chelsea won’t go further with dodgy keeper Kepa – just like Liverpool struggled with Karius and Mignolet, says Carragher

chelsea wont go further with dodgy keeper kepa just like liverpool struggled with karius and mignolet says carragher

CHELSEA will not be able to challenge for the Premier League title with Kepa Arrizabalaga in goal, says Jamie Carragher.

The Liverpool legend compared Frank Lampard’s current charges to the Reds during Jurgen Klopp’s first years at Anfield, when they struggled with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius in goal.

And the Premier League champions dispatched Chelsea to the tune of a 5-3 scoreline on Wednesday.

As the Blues suffered their latest defensive disaster, Carragher took aim at Kepa and his defence.

He told Sky Sports: “Chelsea won’t go no further unless they change their goalkeeper.

“Going back to how important goalkeepers are I look at this Chelsea team and there’s a lot I like about it, it does remind me in a lot of ways the position Jurgen Klopp was in a couple of years ago.

“[Lampard] has done as much as he can, yes Frank’s still in his early stages but those big signings can completely transform you as a team.

“I still think Chelsea need a defender, you see how many goals they’ve conceded. I think a lot of that is down to the goalkeeper being totally honest.

It sounds great and it gets supporters excited but it means nothing if you don’t sort out that back three and certainly that goalkeeper.”

Jamie Carragher

“You see a lot of centre-halves at Chelsea without seeing one really outstanding one, those are the areas that if they are going to challenge Liverpool and Man City they’ll have to rectify in the summer.

“They are the worst team in the league defending corners. This is a massive problem for Chelsea.

“Yes, Werner is coming in and the lad from Ajax, there is talk of Havertz as well. It sounds great and it gets supporters excited but it means nothing if you don’t sort out that back three and certainly that goalkeeper.”

Chelsea paid a world record £71.6million fee to sign Kepa from Athletic Club in 2018.

Since then, the Spaniard has failed to live up to his billing and is responsible for eight per cent of the club’s all-time goals conceded in the Premier League.

One particularly embarrassing incident at Anfield saw Chelsea defenders cry out in vain for the goalkeeper to collect a late corner as it bounced to a Liverpool man at the far-post.

Lampard dropped Kepa earlier in the season and is widely tipped to buy a new goalkeeper in the summer, having bought Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech.

Atletico Madrid star Jan Oblak is thought to be a top target although he will likely cost his full £109m release clause.

Dean Henderson, Andre Onana, Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Ugurcan Cakir have also been linked.

Ronda Rousey hints at WWE return with Becky Lynch feud after X-rated ‘bulls***’ rant over her Battlegrounds rating

ronda rousey hints at wwe return with becky lynch feud after x rated bulls rant over her battlegrounds rating

RONDA ROUSEY has dropped a huge hint she could return to WWE after launching an X-rated rant at old rival Becky Lynch.

The former UFC superstar is still under contract with Vince McMahon’s company but has not competed since WrestleMania 35 in April 2019.

WWE fans are getting excited over the prospect of a future match between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey

WWE fans are getting excited over the prospect of a future match between Becky Lynch and Ronda Rousey

Rousey, 33, Lynch and Charlotte Flair made history that night by becoming the first females to ever compete in the main event of Mania.

It was Lynch who stole the show though, controversially pinning ‘Rowdy’ to become both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s champion.

Rousey has since stated her intention to start a family with her partner Travis Browne but was spotted training recently, sparking rumours of a potential return to the ring.

Meanwhile, Lynch is also currently out of action after announcing in April she and her fiance Seth Rollins were expecting their first child.

Despite their respective absences from TV, the war of words has always continued between the two women.

And Rousey has cranked it up again as she recently streamed WWE 2K Battlegrounds on her Facebook page.

The ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’ took a shot at ‘The Man’ during the stream, and decided to not open her box while playing the game.

And she was even less thrilled when she discovered Lynch’s rating on the game was 92, the same as her own.

Rousey said: “They gave Becky the same as me? She knows that’s bull***t. You know that’s some bull***t.

“I’m gonna leave Becky Lynch’s box alone. I don’t want no ginger box, nobody does.

“Except for maybe Seth Rollins, but you know… that’s his thing.”

The furious row between the pair began in the build-up to WrestleMania as Lynch took a shot at her rival’s husband Browne.

He then fired back by calling Becky by her real name as he also slammed WWE.

Despite their mammoth clash in the triple threat match, the WWE Universe have still not got to see the duo go at it one-on-one.

Man Utd should sack ‘soft’ Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and replace him with ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, says Agbonlahor

man utd should sack soft ole gunnar solskjaer and replace him with ex spurs boss mauricio pochettino says agbonlahor

MANCHESTER UNITED should replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Mauricio Pochettino, claimed Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The former Aston Villa forward has also urged the Red Devils to sign a speedy centre-back and a new left-back.

United suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season.

Andros Townsend broke the deadlock before Wilfried Zaha found the net twice in the second half.

The Reds have now lost three games on the bounce – against Sevilla, Aston Villa and Palace.

After this weekend’s match, Agbonlahor was asked whether Pochettino could do a better job than Solskjaer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the 33-year-old immediately replied: “100 per cent.”

But former Spurs boss Pochettino has reiterated his desire to manage Real Madrid.

The three-cap England international insisted Solskjaer is too “soft” to be in charge.

Agbonlahor said: “If you could be a fly on the wall in the Manchester United changing room after this game, you can’t picture Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having a go at his players.

“You can’t picture it can you, if you did you’d probably be like, ‘Alright then Ole, go on let’s get out of here’.

“But Fergie, you know for a fact he would be hammering his players after that performance.

“Klopp, Pep, they’re not having it. That’s the problem with Manchester United.

“And like you’ve said there, Ole is too soft for me.

“You’ve said about a striker, yes you do need a striker. But today the problem for me was you need a centre-half with some sort of pace.

“If you’re playing Maguire and [Victor] Lindelof and you haven’t got a sitter in front of them, you’re going to get opened up every game.

“You can’t have McTominay as the one to protect Maguire and Lindelof.”

When asked what the Red Devils are missing, he said: “A left-back.

“I don’t think Luke Shaw is the answer for Manchester United.

“[They need] A centre-back with speed that can play alongside Harry Maguire.”

Ally McCoist also slated Solskjaer after the disastrous home defeat on Saturday.

He said: “Manchester United are just a side that look although they will finish fourth, fifth or sixth.

“Twenty points away from the champions, that’s what is going to happen.”

“I just though the team selection was bizarre, it was absolute bizarre.”
