conor mcgregor vs khabib grudge rematch is fight to make if russian beats justin gaethje says ufc chief dana white scaled

UFC president Dana White still believes Conor McGregor rematching Khabib Nurmagomedov is the “fight to make”.

But lightweight king Nurmagomedov, 31, would first have to beat interim champion Justin Gaethje, also 31, with a unification set for October.

With unbeaten Khabib targeting a perfect 30-0 record, promoter White was asked who could be the Russian’s next challenger if he defeats Gaethje.

He responded: “He is fighting Gaethje next. I don’t know who his last fight would be to make him 30. I don’t know.

“I mean listen, [on the] Conor McGregor fight. I know Conor has always wanted that fight since the last one, I mean that is the fight to make.

“I don’t know, we will see how this all plays out. But, the Gaethje one is absolutely, positively the next fight for him.”

McGregor, 32, was beaten in four rounds by nemesis Nurmagomedov in 2018, but a post-fight brawl involving their entourages has fuelled demand of a rematch.

But the Irishman retired for the third time in four years this year, having grown frustrated after he was further kicked down the title picture during lockdown.

White admitted McGregor could yet return, but it appears Nurmagomedov favours a super-fight with welterweight legend Georges St-Pierre over his great rival.

St-Pierre retired last year having not fought since 2017, when he won the middleweight belt.

He was denied a lightweight title shot against Khabib, thus leading to his retirement.

But White would honour Nurmagomedov’s wish if he was to ask for a GSP fight to end his career.

He said: “Sure. Yeah, it’s the last fight of his career the guy, the guys been great.

“He’s been great to the company, he’s been great for the sport.

“And, I like Khabib Nurmagomedov a lot and I would do anything Khabib wanted to do.”

Bayern Munich plot emergency last-minute Thomas Lemar loan transfer from Atletico Madrid after Leroy Sane injury

bayern munich plot emergency last minute thomas lemar loan transfer from atletico madrid after leroy sane injury scaled

BAYERN MUNICH are reportedly plotting an emergency last-minute loan for Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Lemar following Leroy Sane’s injury.

Bild Sport reports former Manchester City winger Sane, 24, has a knee problem which is expected to keep him out for three to four weeks.

Sane joined Bayern earlier in this window for £54.8m from City and his fitness blow could force the German champs to make a move in the transfer market.

And the report states Arsenal target Lemar, 24, is potentially available immediately to help plug the gap and add depth to boss Hansi Flick’s attacking options.

The Champions League winners would prefer a loan deal but Atleti would rather agree a permanent sale but they need to get a move on with the window slamming shut on Monday.

Sane endured an injury-riddled campaign last year, managing only 11 minutes on the pitch after tearing his ACL in August 2019.

Lemar joined Diego Simeone’s side in 2018 from Monaco for a staggering £62m but has failed to hit the heights expected at the Wanda Metropolitano.

A return of no goals or assists in 29 games in all competitions last season, convinced Atletico to put him up for sale.

However, like Bayern, reports suggest interested clubs have so far only put forward loan moves.

The Gunners were linked with Lemar when he still at Monaco, but talk of a swap deal with Alexandre Lacazette surfaced in May.

Yet his dismal form and the signing of Willian from Chelsea means it is unlikely Lemar will be arriving at London Colney to play under Mikel Arteta.

Lemar was thought to have rejected a move to Porto with his heart set on joining a Premier League club.

Everton and Wolves are both reportedly interested in making a move but time is running out for a deal to be completed.

Lemar’s stock has fallen dramatically after previously being linked with Prem big-hitters Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham – none of whom are interested now.

chelseas 20 players out on loan valued at 75m after barkleys shock aston villa move and loftus cheek may be

FANS were left stunned this morning as Chelsea announced the shock news that they’d loaned Ross Barkley to Aston Villa.

But in being temporarily discarded by the Blues, the England international actually finds himself in pretty decent company.

Chelsea's 20 loan stars are worth over £75m

Chelsea shipping out plenty of players on loan is nothing new, with ‘loan army’ jibes from supporters of other clubs having been going around for years.

And this season has been no different with Barkley, 26, becoming the 20th Blue to be sent away this summer – including some other big names.

So let’s wade through the up and coming stars and forgotten journeymen on Chelsea’s books that will ply their trade elsewhere this term.

GOALKEEPERS

Astonishingly Jamal Blackman, 26, finds himself out on loan for the EIGHTH time this season.

Without a first-team appearance for Chelsea, despite featuring on the Blues’ bench 18 times, Blackman will represent Rotherham United in the Championship this year.

Jamie Cumming, 21, has it all ahead of him – embarking on his first loan spell at League Two Stevenage, recently keeping his first senior clean sheet against Oldham Athletic.

At just 17, Teddy Sharman-Lowe has gone to Burton Albion to back up Ben Garratt – although has played both the Brewers’ cup games far this season.

Ethan Wady rounds off the quartet of keepers, representing non-league Dartford.

DEFENDERS

Forgotten man Davide Zappacosta headlines the list of defenders sent packing on loan this year, with the 28-year-old Italian international following up his stint at Roma last season with a campaign at Genoa.

Closer to home, Marc Guehi remains at Swansea City, having joined in January after making his senior debut in the League Cup last season.

And Trevoh Chalobah, younger brother of England international Nathaniel, is playing in Ligue 1 for newly promoted Lorient – after previous stints at Ipswich Town and Huddersfield.

MIDFIELDERS

Ethan Ampadu, who has played in midfield and defence already in his young career, will hope to see more action this year at Sheffield United than he managed at Champions League semi-finalists RB Leipzig last season.

Like Blackman, 25-year-old Lewis Baker is now on his eighth loan spell, having long lost his tag as Chelsea’s brightest young talent.

After numerous EFL loans and the obligatory season at Vitesse, Baker will now try his hand at life in Turkey with Trabzonspor.

Having impressed enormously in the Championship for Charlton and then Swansea last term, exciting midfielder Conor Gallagher gets his chance in the Premier League with West Bromwich Albion this time around.

Luke McCormick, 21, follows up last season’s Shrewsbury sojourn with a spell at Bristol Rovers – while Tariq Uwakwe also tries out life in League One with Accrington Stanley.

Another Vitesse alumni Danilo Pantic, 23, will spend the year at Cukaricki in his native Serbia on what is his fifth loan spell – while Barkley will hope to find his mojo at Villa.

FORWARDS

Michy Batshuayi has again been sent packing to Crystal Palace, after completely failing to impress Frank Lampard last season.

Versatile wide man Kenedy, who has even played as a left-back before, actually appeared 20 times for Chelsea in the 2015-16 season.

With just seven Blues outings since, however, the Brazilian has spent much of the following four years out on loan – and is currently plying his trade at Granada in LaLiga.

Armando Broja, 19, made his senior Chelsea debut in March against Everton – but has been brought back down to earth by becoming the latest Vitesse cast-off.

Meanwhile Charlie Brown, 20, (not the cartoon) is testing himself at Union SG in Belgium while 23-year-old Izzy Brown, no relation, is at Sheffield Wednesday on his seventh loan spell away from Stamford Bridge.

Like the younger Brown, Ike Ugbo, 22, finds himself in Belgium, and has scored two goals in five games so far for Cercle Brugge.

THERE COULD BE MORE

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 24, lost the last year of his career to injury – and despite having started Chelsea’s opener against Brighton, looks set to depart on loan for regular first-team football – with Southampton and West Ham interested.

New recruit Malang Sarr is also set to be immediately loaned out, with St Etienne interested.

Defenders Antonio Rudiger could depart – while forgotten men Baba Rahman and Victor Moses are set to follow.

Jake Clarke-Salter, who has made one senior Chelsea appearance, is also likely to depart ahead of the October 5 deadline.

The Blues are also still looking for suitors to take Danny Drinkwater, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Marco van Ginkel – while Charly Musonda and Lucas Piazon could also head out of Stamford Bridge.
