conor mcgregors sparring partner reveals what its like to face the ufc star who is a different beast in the octagon

CONOR McGREGOR’S training partner has lifted the lid out what it is like to spar the Irishman.

Bellator bantamweight Frans Mlambo has been in McGregor’s camp since The Notorious debuted in the UFC in 2013.

And Mlambo has been a trusted sparring partner out of their Straight Blast Gym in Dublin, headed up by their head coach John Kavanagh.

The 29-year-old revealed expert counter-puncher McGregor is a master at controlling range and adjusting to his opponents game plan.

But that is nothing compared to what the UFC star, 32, is capable of doing once the octagon door closes and the first bell rings.

Mlambo told SunSport: “I always say he’s always very good at reading what you’re doing.

“If you switch up your game mid-sparring he’s very good at reading what you’re doing.

“I’ve been sparring him for years, but when you see him in fights he’s just a different beast.

“You get a load of fighters who shine in the gym, he shines when you’re out there.”

McGregor ruled as featherweight king within two years and by 2016 won the lightweight title to become the first UFC champion to hold two belts at the same time.

The southpaw then put his UFC career on hold in 2017 to crossover to boxing where he lost against Floyd Mayweather in ten rounds.

It was a fight Mlambo helped McGregor prepare for, but in 2018 The Notorious returned to the UFC.

He was again beaten, submitting to Khabib Nurmagomedov in a grudge match that sold a UFC record 2.4m pay-per-views.

McGregor did not fight again until this January when he stepped up to welterweight and knocked out Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds.

Despite retiring in June following frustrations on the sidelines, he is close to agreeing a rematch with Dustin Poirier, who he beat in 2014.

Depending on what weight the fight takes place at will decide whether Mlambo will again spar McGregor.

“I’ve been sparring him for years, but when you see him in fights he’s just a different beast.

As the 9-5 contender was only a regular fixture in McGregor’s camp during his iconic run as featherweight and lightweight ruler.

Mlambo explained: “I was kind of in his camp when he was at featherweight.

“I’m still a bantamweight, so it probably doesn’t make as much sense to use me.

“It would make real good sense if it was someone who presented just speed, then I’d probably be getting the call.

“I haven’t seen him in more than a year, but that’s understandable.”

jose mourinho splashes out 500 on a leg of ham as a reward for sergio reguilon after beating city

Jose Mourinho served up a feast for his Tottenham stars after they went top of the Premier League table by forking out £500 for a leg of ham.

Spurs put Manchester City to the sword on Saturday and underlined their title credentials after a 2-0 win, and Mourinho posted a picture of himself and Sergio Reguilon next to the giant joint of meat, suggesting the Iberico Ham was a reward for the left-back’s performance.

‘A promise is a promise,’ he wrote alongside the photo on his Instagram account. ‘It cost me £500 but I keep my promises,’ he added as he tagged Reguilon’s account.

Reports in Spain claimed it was a prize for the Spaniard after keeping City winger Riyad Mahrez at bay throughout the game, while Sport Witness believe it was because Reguilon had won a bet that Spurs would win the game.

With Raheem Sterling not fit enough to start the match, City’s hopes fell on Algerian international Mahrez, but he failed to inspire Pep Guardiola’s men and was hooked for the English winger with 20 minutes to play.

Spurs midfielder Erik Lamela posted a video of the ham joint to his own Instagram followers, showing Reguilon carving up the meat – which was hoisted up on a huge wooden platter.

The north Londoners finished a gameweek top after nine games for the first time since 1985 thanks to goals from Son Heung-Min and Giovani Lo Celso.

Mourinho has been an avid user of social media this season, delighting fans with some hilarious insights behind the scenes, but he hasn’t always used it in a jovial manner.

After Spurs lost 1-0 to Royal Antwerp, he posted a picture of himself sitting on the coach and wrote: ‘Bad performances deserve bad results. Hope everyone in this bus is as upset as I am. Tomorrow 11am training.’

He often takes the opportunity to reflect on games and also joked with his players after a victory against Burnley to show how they were all glued to their phones.

Mourinho’s reward for Reguilon will bring back memories of Claudio Ranieri buying pizza for his Leicester City side in 2015-16 after guaranteeing them a meal out if they kept a clean sheet.

Uploading the clip on his Instagram story to his 3.8 million followers, Tyson could be heard cheering on his wife as Paris relentlessly punched away.

Along with Tyson, Paris was put through her paces by the Gypsy King’s strength and conditioning coach Kristian Blacklock.

Fury then uploaded a clip of the trio following their workout, where he said: “Another session done.

“Another day smashed. Another hour smashed. Well done Paris, well done Kristian, fantastic work.”

Paris and Tyson worked out together regularly during the first lockdown earlier this year, where the mother-of-five kept up with her husband’s gruelling 700 ab reps.

Tyson later claimed that Paris could outwork his boxing rivals as he lauded her fitness during their sessions.

He said: “She is fitter than me, outdoing me now, I have created a monster.”

Before adding: “You’re fit, you’re fit as a fiddle. Honestly, you’d outwork a lot of boxers, she would outwork a lot of boxers.

“She’s fit as a fiddle, you got fit Paris I tell you that! In six-seven weeks you got amazingly fit.”

Fury – who still has no opponent announced for his next fight – showered Paris with gifts last weekend after celebrating 12 years of marriage.

The 32-year-old treated his other half to Thornton’s chocolates and some flowers, alongside a pair of £890 J’Adior Slingback Pumps and some Christian Dior Dway Slides, which retail for £550.

controversial jockey banned from racecourse for fighting cameraman and battling alcohol issues set for comeback aged 50

A CONTROVERSIAL jockey whose record-breaking career has been marred by violence and drinking is set to make a stunning comeback aged 50.

American legend Kent Desormeaux is set to make his return to the track on Boxing Day.

The three-time Kentucky Derby winner checked himself into rehab in October in a bid to kick his alcohol addiction.

That came after ugly scenes last July in which, according to a complaint filed by the California Horse Racing Board, Desormeaux attacked a cameraman in a car park.

The complaint claimed the iconic jockey, who has more than 6,000 career wins, was under the influence of alcohol when the scrap happened.

It was also claimed Desormeaux, who turns 51 in February, used racist language when confronting the cameraman at Del Mar racecourse in California, US.

Del Mar CEO Joe Harper said at the time: “Our action is not related to anything in racing, but rather to conduct which we don’t feel is consistent with our standards.”

Desormeaux did not respond directly to the claims, but in September he was given a 15-day ban by stewards for ‘disorderly conduct, racial slurs and aggressive behaviour’.

The ruling also ordered Desormeaux, who has not ridden since July, to check in with the Winner’s Foundation, who work with jockeys with substance-abuse issues.

Now the jockey’s agent, JR Pegram, has told drf.com his man intends to ride again after Christmas.

He said: “Everything is going good for him.

“He is going to go into a sober-living program for 60 days and be an outpatient for six months, which will allow him to work during the day and attend classes at night.”

Desormeaux, inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 2004, is looking to return at Santa Anita racecourse.

He will try to end a disappointing run of form in which he won just 36 races last year, with his earnings the lowest since his first year riding in 1986.

Desormeaux, who set a US record for most races won in a single year with 598 in 1989, failed breathalyser tests in 2010 and 2012 and went into an alcohol rehab program in 2016.

He previously spoke about his alcohol issues, saying: “I hit bottom. I had a blackout. That’s enough.”
