Hoddle required a triple heart bypass operation to save his life and has now been warned by doctors to stay fit and healthy.

But he won’t give up his love of his favourite biscuit.

The former Three Lions player and boss revealed all on his own Hodcast, the Glenn Hoddle Footy show.

‘LUCKY TO BE ALIVE’

Opening up on his health scare in October 2018, Hoddle said: “I feel really great.

“It all happened on my birthday in October and it was a massive shock to the family and myself.

“It has been a really tough year of rehab, and I still feel the fatigue.

“But I am really lucky to be alive, it’s as simple as that.

“If [BT Sport sound supervisor] Simon Daniels hadn’t been there on the day to save me, I wouldn’t be sitting here now.

“Health-wise now I am beginning to get back to normal and enjoying life again.

“I’ve got grandchildren and I really enjoy watching them growing up when I might not have been able to do that.”

On his diet – and love of custard creams – Hoddle confessed: “My diet has changed a little on the advice of the doctors.

“But the truth is that I love biscuits. It’s impossible to have tea or coffee without a biscuit, and I have to have two or three.

“It’s terrible. I could lost a stone if I stopped.

“Custard creams remind me of my childhood, I love them.

“After I’ve had three custard creams I throw the rest of the tea or coffee away.”

argentine club confirm james rodriguez joined everton for free

Everton paid no transfer fee for James Rodriguez, Argentine club Banfield have confirmed.

The Merseyside outfit pulled off the shock signing of the Real Madrid forward this summer, signing a two-year deal at Goodison Park.

It had been thought that Everton had paid as much as £20million to land the Colombia international, but it has now been claimed this is not the case.

According to Marca, a statement made by Banfield insisted that there was no fee involved.

Banfield, who sold Rodriguez to Porto in 2010, were due a small percentage of the sell-on fee and chased up the details of the deal to find out what they would be entitled to.

However, the club treasurer Ignacio Urquiza said: ‘Unfortunately for the pass of James Rodríguez from Real Madrid to Everton Banfield does not correspond to money.

‘The transaction was made without cost, as if it were a free player. The pertinent consultations have already been made to the two clubs involved and to the corresponding organisations.

‘In all cases they confirmed to us that the club will not receive money as a solidarity mechanism.’

anthony joshua vs tyson fury eddie hearn confirms he is on the verge of sending out formal offer

A contract formalising the heavyweight mega-showdown between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury is on the verge of being sent out, AJ’s promotor Eddie Hearn has revealed.

Earlier this year, the pair agreed terms in principle that would see them meet in an all-British clash where the heavyweight division would be unified with both men putting their belts on the line.

Both Joshua and Fury have opponents to defeat before the pair can finally face, with AJ set to face mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev while the Gypsy King will fight Deontay Wilder for a third time.

Hearn, who represents WBA, WBO, IBF and IBO champion Joshua, has been in contact with Bob Arum, Fury’s US promotor, in a bid to finalise details over the unification bout.

The Matchroom chief has revealed that some last details need to be sorted before Joshua and Fury will meet in a highly-anticipated heavyweight match up.

‘Yeah, I’ve been talking to Bob Arum about various things,’ Hearn told Sky Sports. ‘Fury against Joshua is a big ambition of everybody involved, to be honest.

‘We want to talk about it, but we also want to take care of business, which is Kubrat Pulev for AJ, and Deontay Wilder for Tyson Fury.’

Hearn revealed that fans can expect to see the two Brits face off at some point in 2021, with the Matchroom chief ‘on the verge’ of sending an offer to Arum.

‘I’m very sure you’re going to see two versions of that fight in 2021. I think we’re on the verge now of papering that deal with Bob Arum. We haven’t done it yet, but all the conversations are positive.

‘We have a lot on our plates with the pandemic, making sure we keep boxing alive and trying to deliver those fights for AJ and Fury, but I think 2021, I’m very sure you’ll see those two fights.

‘Both guys have great personalities, they can fight, and it is overdue. Let’s get it done.’

CAN Lee Westwood finally end his 25-year wait for a first Major title at the US Open with stunning fiancée Helen Storey caddying for him?

Well, it’s the least he could do after the couple had to cancel their wedding.

Ryder Cup legend Westwood, 47, and fitness fanatic Helen were due to tie the knot at Ireland’s exclusive Adare Manor resort in August.

But coronavirus had other ideas and the loved-up couple have put their big day on hold for now.

The good news is that, after Westwood’s fantastic three-under 67 in the first round in New York, the pair could have something extra to celebrate when they finally do.

How amazing will it be should Westwood break his duck in the big ones with his other half on the bag.

Especially since the first time Helen caddied for him in 2018 she was scared to pick up divots – in case there was a worm in them.

Westwood says Helen is still learning about golf. And she still doesn’t like raking bunkers.

But what she knows better than anyone else is the six inches between his ears.

Helen became Westwood’s girlfriend when his divorce to Laurae Coltart after 16 years ended in a last-minute settlement that avoided a courtroom battle over his £50million fortune.

The couple almost ended his barren run in last year’s Open at Royal Portrush before Westy finished tied fourth.

And the former world No1 said then: “Obviously I get on well with Helen. She doesn’t know too much about golf but she knows a lot about the way my mind works.

“So she keeps me in a good frame of mind and focusing on the right things at the right time. There’s more to the caddying than carrying and getting the wind direction.”

Helen began caddying for Westwood after he split with long-time bag man Billy Foster.

Shortly after, he ended a four-year winless drought with victory in the Nedbank Challenge.

Should Helen help Westwood to success again, then the Worksop-born superstar will supplant Jerry Barber as the oldest first-time Major champion.

Barber was 45 when he won the 1961 US PGA in a play-off.

Helen’s commitment to fitness has rubbed off on her fella and he burns hundreds of calories on the Peloton bike they share – as well as gruelling workouts.

Westwood looks in the shape of his life now and he told The Times of Helen’s impact, saying: “She helped me more than anybody. She is very cheery, very positive.”

Will she help him to his first Major crown?

Well that really would be a true fairytale of New York.
