gareth bale is still one of the worlds top three players when on form says team mate casemiro

Gareth Bale is in the top three players in the world according to team-mate Casemiro, who insists the Welshman is still ‘very important’ to Real Madrid.

Bale has enjoyed a trophy-laden seven years at Real Madrid since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in a then world-record £86million transfer, but it is no secret that his position at Santiago Bernabeu is under threat.

With Real Madrid returning to Champions League action next week, Casemiro believes Bale still has a future at the club as he praises his team-mate for his ability to score goals in important ‘finals.’

‘He’s working,’ the Brazilian told Esporte Interativo. ‘He knows it’s not the best time in his career, but he has our support, that of the coach and of the club.

‘He’s very important for us, he can spring a surprise at any time, and he’s already shown that. He’s a decisive player who scores goals in Champions League finals.

‘We have to be honest and say that he’s not at his best, but when he is, he’s incredible and in the top three in the world. I have a lot of love for him, and that’s why I try to take care of him as much as I can.’

Bale will be in contention for Real Madrid’s Champions League clash as Zidane’s men look to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit to Manchester City.

Should Real Madrid be successful in their trip to the Etihad Stadium on Friday, they will progress to the quarter-finals of this season’s Champions League but it remains to be seen how much of a prominent role Bale will have.

Ex-Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy believes a return to the Premier League would help Bale rediscover his ‘passion’ for the game.

Writing in his column for Sportsmail, Murphy said: ‘He’s done tremendously well in Madrid, scored big goals in finals and won trophies, so the club agreed to reward him with a longer deal.

‘We moan about players being disloyal so Bale can be congratulated for wanting to stay. He probably loves the club and lifestyle in Madrid, if not the manager.

‘But there does come a point where you are wasting months and years of your career, and passion for the game should overtake everything else.’

CLIVE Cox and Adam Kirby were at it again as Supremacy stole the show in the Group 1 Middle Park.

The trainer-jockey duo have enjoyed a brilliant season on the big stage and their latest sprinting star blew their rivals away at a gusty Newmarket.

Quick out the stalls, Kirby took Supremacy to the front and it was a case of catch me if you can.

Kirby got the fractions spot on as only favourite Lucky Vega managed to put up a real challenge.

But Supremacy held on to win at 13-2 by half-a-length from the Irish raider, with Minzaal back in third.

The likes of Golden Horde, Harry Angel and Lethal Force have all thrived under Cox and Supremacy looks to be the latest star to emerge from the Lambourn yard.

Cox smiled: “He’s a complete speedball and likes to get on with it.

“Adam’s ridden him beautifully, he got it spot on and I’m delighted with how he saw that out.

“But I’m really excited for next year too. I think he’s got more strengthening and growing to do over winter and he’s just pure class.”

Sprinting will be his game next season and the bookies made him an 8-1 shot for the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, a race Cox won this year with Golden Horde.

He added: “I don’t think we’ll be stretching him out anymore next year. We only need to polish what we’ve got.

“He’s got that speed. We realised at Goodwood that the best way to ride him was like that.

“I’m not sure why he was overlooked in this today. People have short memories don’t they!

“We’ve had a tremendous season, especially with the two-year-old crop as they have been amazing.

“Any winner is special, but that feeling of standing on that stand, even though there wasn’t a huge crowd around us, it was still extremely satisfying.”

Majestic Dawn sprung a 40-1 shock in the Cambridgeshire under an emotional Paul Hanagan.

After nearly quitting following a broken back suffered in a fall last February, he partnered Oliver and Paul Cole’s horse to his first big race win since returning last month.

Hanagan said: “I’m lost for words.

“It was a long road back to fitness, so this is special. I owe the comeback to so many people.

“I don’t think you’ll see many Cambridgeshires won like that!

“We got the rail, he was a little bit keen, so I took him away. After that I just needed to point him.”

Earlier on the card, Alcohol Free landed a touch in the Group 1 Cheveley Park for the Andrew Balding-Oisin Murphy team.

Well-backed late into 7-2, she travelled brilliantly under the Champion Jockey and saw off challenges from all corners.

Favourite Miss Amulet ran into second but Balding’s brave decision to jump from a defeat in a Group 3 to a Group 1 paid off.

He said: “That was great. We’ll put her away for the season now and hope to step her up in trip next season. She should get a mile.”

BETIS 2-2 REAL MADRID

52, Benzema… RATTLES THE BAR!

It’s still shaking I thinking.

Brilliant touch to bring down a cross from the left and he lashed his shot goalwards from 12 yards.

It stayed hit, and cannoned straight off the underside of the bar, inches away from going over the line.

Replays show he might have been a tad offside.

What have they said?

Adesanya: “He’s dumb and he walks forward and he throws shots.

“That’s what makes it really exciting, and that’s what I’m looking forward to. I’m looking forward to this big, inflated ignoramus, running up on me, trying to throw shots as I keep moving and sticking him.

“He’s not scared to walk forward and just throw, and he’s strong.”

Costa: “First of all, I think he’s a counter-striker.

“Everybody here saw when he fought Romero. If one guy doesn’t push him, he will not push out. He stood, the guy came for him.

“So I will try to push him, to bring him to the fight, but if he avoid the fight I will not chase him all the time. I will go back to the middle and cut the angles and try to make the fight happen.”
