jamie ohara slams his old club tottenham by branding them average

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has hit out at his old club, branding some players ‘average’ and ‘like a bunch of spoiled kids’.

O’Hara, who was at White Hart Lane for six years, launched into a passionate tirade about the state of Spurs’ squad following the start of the Premier League campaign.

Jose Mourinho‘s side suffered a 1-0 home defeat by Everton in their opening game of the season on Sunday but have now sealed a sensational return for fan favourite Gareth Bale.

Prior to Bale’s move O’Hara labelled the squad ‘average’ with just forwards Harry Kane and Son Heung-min their only ‘world-class’ stars.

He told talkSPORT: ‘They are so stretched, it’s unbelievable. I mean, anyone could play against Spurs!

‘Only two of them are world-class [Kane and Son].

‘You go through that team: Davies, average; Alderweireld, average; Dier, below average; Doherty, just signed, decent; Hojbjerg, average; Winks, decent; Alli, average; Son, brilliant; Kane, brilliant; Lucas Moura, touch and go.

‘The rest of them… They look like a bunch of spoiled kids!

‘Get some leaders and characters in the camp and pull your fingers out; this is Spurs Football Club you are playing for.’

Tottenham’s squad will be fully tested over the coming weeks as they face playing nine games in just 22 days.

Following his rant earlier this week, O’Hara, who made over 50 appearances for Spurs, wrote on Twitter: ‘Maybe rattled a few cages today on my Spurs rant, but I’m just passionate about the club which I was lucky enough to play for with some incredible players and supported my whole life, just want to see them show some passion for the badge and some ambition #spurs #honesty.’

Mourinho’s side kick off their Europa League campaign later when they come up against Lokomotiv Plovdiv in Bulgaria.

aston villa confirm 19m signing of forward bertrand traore from lyon

Aston Villa have confirmed the £19million signing of Lyon forward Bertrand Traore.

The 25-year-old has signed a three-year contract at Villa Park and is the club’s fourth major arrival of the summer to take their total spend to £84m.

Dean Smith said: ‘We’re delighted that Bertrand has chosen to come to Villa. He’s a player with immense talent who will really enhance our attacking options.’

Villa haven’t held back with their spending in an effort to re-establish themselves as a Premier League club following their promotion in 2019.

They spent £143m on new signings last summer and achieved their target of survival, albeit only on the final day of the season.

This summer has seen them buy striker Ollie Watkins from Brentford for an initial £28m that could rise to £33m as well as Matty Cash from Nottingham Forest for £14m and Emiliano Martinez from Arsenal for £20m.

It takes their spending since returning to the top-flight to £227m over the two seasons. Only Chelsea and Manchester City have spent more in the same period, with Villa’s spending roughly equal to Manchester United.

In addition, Villa’s captain Jack Grealish last week agreed a new five-year contract worth £135,000-a-week.

Traore spoke to John Terry, his former team-mate at Chelsea and Villa’s assistant manager, before making the move.

He has also previously played alongside Villa players Marvelous Nakamba at Vitesse and Anwar El Ghazi at Ajax.

‘I’m very happy to join Aston Villa,’ he told VillaTV. ‘I’m happy to be here.’

‘I played with JT at Chelsea, I spoke to him.

‘I spoke to the Manager, spoke with the Sporting Director as well and some players I used to play with – Nakamba and El Ghazi.

‘I spoke to Nakamba, I talked to him a little bit about the club. Many things made me take the decision to come here. I’m happy.’

Traore played 35 matches last season, mainly on the right wing, and scored four goals, adding five assists.

Traore, a Burkina Faso international, started his career in Chelsea’s academy and played 16 times for their first team in 2015-16.

That followed two seasons on loan with partner club Vitesse Arnhem while he also spent the 2016-17 campaign in Holland with Ajax.

Chelsea sold Traore to Lyon for £8.8m in the summer of 2017 and the forward has gone on to score 33 goals in 125 matches for the French club.

neymars puma deal the most expensive individual sponsorship contract in sport after quitting nike

Neymar‘s shock switch to become the new face of Puma has reportedly come with a massive £23m-per-year deal – the largest individual sponsorship contract in sport.

The 28-year-old ended his close partnership with Nike this month, quitting the American brand after they backed his rise from the age of 13.

The PSG forward had two years left on an 11-year deal with Nike – choosing to break the contract to make history with a staggering sum.

Neymar’s £23m-a-year crushes Cristiano Ronaldo’s £15m Nike deal by a massive £8m, while Lionel Messi’s £18m Adidas partnership is also dwarfed by the Brazilian’s.

The huge sums were revealed by Forbes but the length of the deal is unknown, as Neymar settles into life as the face of the German brand, wearing Puma boots, lifestyle wear and training gear.

Puma’s signing was announced with the slogan ‘The King is back’, referencing the company’s iconic Puma KING boot.

Neymar insisted Puma’s history was also an important factor in the Nike break: ‘I grew up watching videos of great football legends such as Pele, Cruyff, Matthaus, Eusebio and Maradona.’

‘I wish to bring back the legacy that those athletes created on the pitch.’

PSG are sponsored by Nike and the American company will be disappointed to lose the superstar, but the Parisians will still be delighted that Neymar has committed his future to the club, for now.

The Brazilian confirmed he will be staying in France this season, with the winger still chasing the Champions League glory he was brought in to achieve back in 2017.

Neymar helped PSG to the final in 2020 but a 1-0 scoreline in Bayern Munich’s favour hid the ease of the German’s victory, after a poor display from the Ligue 1 side’s talisman.
