manchester united golkeeper romero left in limbo after failing to secure move to inter miami

Manchester United goalkeeper Sergio Romero has been left in limbo after a move to Major League Soccer fell through.

Talks with David Beckham’s new club Inter Miami came to nothing with the MLS transfer window due to close in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Argentine goalkeeper is now set to stay at United until January – or even the end of his contract in June – unless the two sides can agree terms to rip up his £100,000-a-week deal before then.

However, it’s understood that Romero is in no mood to do United any favours after being upset at his treatment by the club.

The 33-year-old’s hopes of joining Everton were dashed when United demanded a fee, and he was then left out of both the Premier League and Champions League squads this season following Dean Henderson’s return to Old Trafford as No.2 to David de Gea.

Romero, who helped United reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup and Europa League last season only to be replaced by De Gea in both competitions, has now effectively dropped to fourth choice behind Lee Grant and there is no possibility of him playing for the club again.

His wife Eliana Guercio criticised United on social media and some of his teammates are also said to be unhappy at how the club have handled the situation.

The former Sampdoria and AZ Alkmaar keeper returned from Argentina earlier this month and is training at Carrington following a quarantine period.

foden set for england recall after impressive displays for city but greenwood may have to wait

Phil Foden is set to be considered for an England call-up next week following his non-inclusion for disciplinary issues earlier this month.

Manchester City star Foden, along with Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, were not considered for the games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark after being sent home in shame for bringing back two females to the team hotel following the win in Iceland just days after their first senior international call-ups in September.

But having axed the pair from his previous 30-man party; Southgate is ready to re-consider the young duo for the forthcoming matches against Republic of Ireland, Belgium and Iceland.

Foden has been in excellent form for City since the start of the season and is known to have impressed England scouts, who have kept a close eye on his progress in recent weeks.

Indeed, it is understood Foden has a strong chance of being handed a recall following his disciplinary issues.

It remains to be seen, however, whether Greenwood will be handed an immediate return to the senior squad when Southgate names his squad on Thursday.

Greenwood, who has faced disciplinary issues at Old Trafford in recent weeks, scored in Wednesday’s Champions League demolition of Red Bull Leipzig, but is yet to notch in the Premier League this season.

And while Southgate is ready to consider the 19-year-old, it remains to be seen whether the England boss believes he warrants a return based on performance.

Speaking after omitting the pair earlier this month, Southgate said: ‘We have to send a message to all our players in our teams at every age level that that sort of thing isn’t how we do things with England.’

Ryan Giggs says it could take Manchester United 20 years to win another Premier League title

Former Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has said that the club will have to wait 20 years to win the Premier League title again after Liverpool‘s recent success.

Giggs claims the Red Devils wait will be determined by how long Jurgen Klopp stays at Anfield, after he lead his team to a domestic triumph for the first time in 30 years.

Manchester United have not won the title since legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson guided them to victory in 2013 and Giggs fears Liverpool’s ‘resources’ and ‘players’ will see them dominate the league for years to come.

When asked by former LFC defender Jamie Carragher if he was worried his former team would have to wait as long as Liverpool to the claim the title again, Giggs said: ‘Yes, 100 per cent. It could be 15, 20 years before you know it, especially if (Jurgen) Klopp and (Pep) Guardiola stick around.

‘They have got the resources and the players so we have Liverpool to look at where the last time when they won it in 1990 they thought we’ll win it again soon.

‘Even Klopp took four and a half years for him to win it – it takes a long time. You have to think about what Klopp did.

‘He improved the team every season or won a trophy like the Champions League and then you saw the improvement so the pressure was off a little bit.

‘Every manager and signing is seen as that he will win us the league and it’s not like that.’

Giggs went on to speak about the long-standing rivalry Liverpool and United, saying the best feeling was leaving Anfield after a win.

He told the Greatest Game Podcast‘The best feeling I always had was leaving Anfield after winning even if Liverpool weren’t the best side at the time.

‘I played for Salford boys and our toughest games were always against Bootle, Liverpool, Kirkby, Sefton.

‘As soon as you went down the East Lancs it was a mindset it’s going to be a tough game and a test of not just your footballing ability but also your mental strength.’
