Manchester City new boy Ferran Torres has laid into former club Valencia and their captain Dani Parejo after completing his £37m move to the Premier League

The 20-year-old winger was one of the hottest properties on the transfer market and Pep Guardiola sees him as a long-term replacement for Leroy Sane. City splashed out an initial £20.9m with the rest to be paid in add-ons.

Torres developed well at Valencia in the past 12 months, making 44 appearances and scoring six goals last season, but has now been critical of his former club in an interview with Marca.

Midfield veteran Parejo was the target of his scathing criticism with Torres insisting ‘I don’t think he was a good captain with me’ and claiming he felt he was blamed for the acrimonious exit of former manager Marcelino.

Torres said: ‘I have to say that after three years of experience in the first team, all of this helped me mature and become mentally strong.

‘Parejo is a great player but personally I have never had a relationship with him.

‘When I joined the first team, when I was 17 years old, many weeks passed before he said a simple “Good morning” to me.

‘I don’t think he was a good captain with me. The worst came with the departure of Marcelino. Kangin (Lee) and I were used as culprits in the locker room.’

Torres also revealed there were three things he insisted had to be done if he was stay put at the Mestalla, including being named a captain, but they were not met.

He added: ‘One is that Peter Lim (Valencia’s owner) was involved in my renewal, to show me that I was important to the club.

‘Another was to be a captain, which was my dream, because I had seen how other clubs had done that with the youth of the club, such as (Mikel) Oyarzabal or Fernando Torres, to retain them.

‘And the third was to be among the highest-paid players on the squad.

‘I know that Valencia is not in a position to pay the same as the big European clubs but I was able to lead the project and I wanted to be treated as such, that the club made an effort to keep me. They just didn’t want to, period.’

Torres was a bit more upbeat about his future when he was unveiled by City on Tuesday and couldn’t hide his excitement at the prospect of playing for his new club.

He told the City official website: ‘I am so happy to be joining City. Every player wants to be involved in attacking teams and Manchester City are one of the most attacking in world football.

‘Pep encourages a really open, aggressive style, which I love, and he is a manager with a proven track record of improving players. To have him overseeing my development is a dream.

‘City have won plenty of trophies in the last 10 years and I hope I can play a role in continuing that success.’

fans love tanguy ndombeles moment of magic in build up to heung min sons opener

Fans have been singing the praises of Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele after his involvement in their equaliser against Southampton.

The French midfielder picked up the ball in the middle of the pitch after showing his strength against Saints hard man Oriel Romeu.

He then creates space for himself with a perfect piece of skill to get past James Ward-Prowse and get Spurs on the attack.

Ndombele then put the ball through to Harry Kane who set up Son Hueng-min in a fast, flowing move all begun by the Frenchman.

One fan tweeted: ‘That was a world class piece of skill from Ndombele. World class’

Another fan said that the Tottenham midfielder is about to surpass Manchester United’s Paul Pogba in the French set-up following his first half display.

They tweeted: ‘Ndombele really about to end pogbas international career.’

Despite impressing in the first half of Tottenham’s match against Southampton in the Premier League, Ndombele was dragged off at half-time, minutes after his moment of magic.

He was replaced by Giovani Lo Celso, who has shared the same injury woes as his counterpart in recent months.

There have been question marks over Jose Mourinho’s faith in Ndombele after he made it quite clear last season that he was not in his favoured starting side.

AWESOME AUBA HERE

Martin Keown reckons Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can become an Arsenal legend after the striker finally signed a new contract this week.

And the club’s former centre-back shared his thoughts on what more the Emirates frontman can do to become a Gunners icon.

Keown told talkSPORT: “Aubameyang loves playing there [Arsenal] and he wants to be a legend in the future, so why not?

“He’s 31 years of age and he’s turned down Barcelona by the way to stay there. I think that tells you how much he loves the football club and what he’s looking to achieve.

“If they win the Premier League in the next three years then he certainly will become a legend if he plays a major part in that.”
