manchester united make move for manchester citys 600 goal wonderkid

Manchester United are confident of landing 600-goal academy striker Charlie McNeill from rivals Manchester City.

The England youth international is set to leave City after rejecting a professional contract at the Etihad Stadium – and United want to swoop in for the highly-regarded youngster.

McNeill does not turn 17 until September, requiring the two clubs to agree a fee or risk the financials being ruled on at tribunal.

They remain locked in talks and it is understood McNeill will cost a seven-figure sum, given his goalscoring exploits in the academy teams and international experience.

City would hope to include a number of additional performance-related clauses but are currently at a stalemate with their cross-town rivals.

McNeill is a United supporter and spent his early years with their junior sides before a switch to City six years ago. The centre forward’s staggering number of goals at youth level have been accumulated while at both clubs.

He has recently found opportunities with City’s Under 18s limited and wants a new challenge elsewhere.

City do not want to stand his way, although they expect to recoup a fee that reflects his ability.

The protracted negotiations with United could alert the likes of Wolves and newly-promoted Leeds United, who are also tracking the teenager.

McNeill announced he was to leave City last month. ‘A massive thank you to Man City for everything over the past six years,’ he said.

‘It’s been such a pleasure to play with some amazing players and I’ve made some amazing friends too. Thanks to all the staff and players for helping me develop as a player and also as a person. I wish everyone the very best.’

The two Ronnies! Cristiano Ronaldo films his latest Nike advert with help of a body double

the two ronnies cristiano ronaldo films his latest nike advert with help of a body double

Cristiano Ronaldo has played a starring role in a new promotional video for Nike – with a little help from his body double.

The Juventus forward, 35, whose boot deal with Nike is worth an eye-watering £15million, was on set in Turin to shoot an advertisement video to promote his sponsor’s new footwear.

And there were some VIP guests in the building looking on from the sidelines with Marisa, the daughter of Ronaldo’s super-agent Jorge Mendes, in attendance. She is reportedly his PR manager and has been responsible for all his social media activity since 2016.

Ronaldo was captured showing off his extraordinary leaping abilities during the shoot as he jumped high above the ground to head the ball.

It wasn’t just Ronaldo putting in the elbow grease though as his body double was substituted in to pick up several scenes.

Ronaldo was also pictured mucking around with a tennis ball with a member of the film crew.

The 35-year-old’s driver was also watching on and was quick to whisk him away once his day’s work had finished.

Despite his ageing years, Ronaldo is showing no signs of slowing down… even if he did call on a Doppelganger to fill in for him in some of his scenes.

Ronaldo was a key performer for Juventus last season as they won the Serie A title and it was business as usual for him on the opening game of their season last weekend as he scored in a 3-0 victory over Sampdoria.

Next up for Ronaldo and Andrea Pirlo’s Juventus side is a tricky trip to Roma. Juventus will need the real Ronaldo to show up once again if they are to continue their perfect start to the season.

Dillian Whyte has spoken with Coldwell about joining his team again for Alexander Povetkin rematch

dillian whyte has spoken with coldwell about joining his team again for alexander povetkin rematch

Dillian Whyte has spoken with respected trainer Dave Coldwell about recalling him to his coaching team for his rematch with Alexander Povetkin, Sportsmail understands.

The Brixton heavyweight had made several changes behind the scenes over the summer, parting company with long-time trainer Mark Tibbs to link up with Xavier Miller before his knockout defeat against Povetkin.

Coldwell, who’s previously guided Tony Bellew and Jamie McDonnell to world titles, was also brought in by Whyte for that fight to bolster his team.

Sportsmail understands they are yet to discuss Coldwell re-joining his team at length but they have talked about it and there is a possibility Whyte could call on him again to play a role in the rematch as he looks to right the wrongs from last month’s defeat, though a firm decision hasn’t been made.

When put to Coldwell about potentially returning to help Whyte, he said: ‘I don’t know, that’s down to Dillian to discuss with his people and his head coach Xavier to make that decision.

‘It’s not my place to say what he is doing with his team and his camp, that’s down to him and what he wants to decide.’

Whyte faces the highly-experienced Povetkin again on November 21st after being brutally knocked out in their first meeting.

Coldwell said witnessing the knockout from ringside was ‘one of the most shocking experiences of my life’ but is backing Whyte to claim revenge in the rematch.

‘He’s handled the loss really well,’ Coldwell added. ‘He got done by AJ earlier on in his career and look how he came back from that. And dare I say it the AJ fight, because of the beef, and pride as well, that that would have been harder to deal with.

‘I would imagine that was a bigger loss for him mentally to come back from and he handled that and came back in a fantastic way. So I don’t see this being a problem.

‘I think Dillian will make some tiny adjustments and finish off what he started and planned to do.’

At 32, Whyte cannot afford to lose again to Povetkin if he wants to maintain his ambitions of challenging for a world title – something he has been cruelly denied of despite holding the mandatory position to the WBC belt for over 1,000 days.

But even if the Brit was to come out on the losing end again, Coldwell insists his career would not be over.

‘It is a big backwards step if he gets beaten. But you have only got to look at Dereck Chisora, it’s not over until it’s over. Especially in the heavyweight division, you’re only a fight away from getting something big and probably only two wins away from getting a world title fight,’ he said.

‘They are frantically trying to get AJ and Fury to meet and all the belts to become one but that’s not going to last for long because there’s mandatories coming up for different organisations and whoever ends up winning it, if they can actually make the fight, basically as soon as they win it the belts will end up being fragmented again so you could have pairings off here, there and everywhere which will give a lot of these guys in the top 10 opportunities.

‘It’s only over when you have no ambition left. Dillian isn’t the type of guy to keep going just to get a pay cheque, it’s the ambition with him, the same as Chisora. It’s the ambition to become world champion or to at least get a crack at it that drives him.’
