Everton are reportedly set to miss out on securing the services of Brazilian winger, and namesake, Everton this summer as he edges closer to Benfica.

The Toffees have been tracking the Gremio star for a number of years but reports claim Everton has chosen a move to Portugal rather than the Premier League.

According to Goal, a deal between Everton and Benfica has ‘moved a step closer’ with the Portuguese giants willing to pay £18million to get a deal done.

It is claimed the Toffees considered bidding for the winger back in the January transfer window but a move failed to materialise.

Ancelotti is desperate to add another goal-scoring threat to his squad this summer to ease the burden on Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Benfica manager Jorge Jesus, who has only recently returned to the club after a successful spell in Brazil with Flamengo, has identified Everton as a key target this summer.

Everton scored 15 goals and contributed seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for Gremio last season.

He made his senior Brazil debut in 2018 and has gone on to win 14 caps and score three goals.

The 24-year-old also played in their successful Copa America campaign last summer, winning the Golden Boot with three goals.

But reports claim Benfica are in pole position to sign Everton for a fee of around £18million

This is Ancelotti’s first summer transfer window since taking over at Goodison Park in the middle of last season.

He has already suffered another transfer blow following the news that Southampton’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg had chosen a move to Tottenham instead of Goodison Park.

Reports have also linked Everton with former Chelsea winger Jeremie Boga.

Though Everton now face competition from Napoli and Bayer Leverkusen, who have reportedly entered the race for the Ivory Coast international.

Everton finished in the bottom half of the Premier League last season, ending up in 12th place and 10 points off of the Europa League places.

He is being forced to train away from the main Red Devils squad, as talks over a transfer continue.

And Inter have now joined rivals Roma in chasing the centre-back, who wants a return to Italy.

The Nerazzurri are prepared to pick-up his £120,000-a-week wages for the entirety of his 12-month loan deal.

And SunSport understands there will also be an obligation to buy Smalling at the end of the move.

Roma are still trying to land the ex-Fulham ace after his successful spell with the club last year.

But they are growing frustrated with negotiations and are NOT willing to pay his full weekly wages.

It is understood Smalling – contracted at United until 2022 – is desperate to return to Serie A, but could be forced to stay in England with Fulham interested.

Conte has snapped-up a number of Premier League stars in recent years including Romelu Lukaku and Ashley Young.

However, Inter are looking to offload defenders before making a move for Smalling, to raise funds.

Diego Godin is closing in on a switch to Cagliari while Milan Skriniar is being eyed in a £60m move by PSG.

Elsewhere, it emerged today United youngster James Garner has joined Watford on a season-long loan.
