Gareth Bale’s impending return to Tottenham dominates the front pages in Spain with the theme being that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has got his way in securing his exit.

The relationship between Bale and Zidane had broken down last season which led to the Bernabeu club urgently wanting the Wales star off their books.

And they have accomplished that with his season-long loan worth more than £13million representing an emotional return to his former club.

‘Zidane: He has his way’ reads the front page headline in Marca which features a photograph of Zidane keeping a beady eye on Bale during a training session.

They add that the deal is close to completion with Real paying almost half of Bale’s £500,000-a-week wages during the course of the loan.

Marca also report that Bale’s Real team-mate, the left-back Sergio Reguilon, is also poised to sign for Spurs for £27m. Reguilon, who has also been linked with Manchester United, will sign a five-year deal.

AS also lead on the story with the simple headline ‘Bye Bale’ with a picture of the smiling player heading the ball in training.

They focus on comments by the former Real manager Jose Mourinho, now in charge at Tottenham, that this is the third time he has tried to sign Bale.

‘I tried to sign him for Real Madrid which was not possible to do during my time there,’ Mourinho said on Wednesday.

‘But the president followed my instinct and my knowledge and the season I left he brought Gareth to the club.

‘There is no secret on that. Even Gareth knows that. But I’m not going to speak about him anymore because he is a Real Madrid player.’

Mourinho also tried to sign Bale when he was Manchester United manager but couldn’t prise him away from Real.

Meanwhile, AS calculate that Bale has cost Madrid 23,800 euros (£21,638) for every minute he was on the field last season.

Bale played 1,260 minutes across 20 Real matches in all competitions – 27.5 per cent of the total the team played – scoring three goals and contributing two assists in another campaign plagued by injury.

He featured in just two matches following the post-lockdown restart as his relationship with Zidane deteriorated.

jose mourinho admits tottenham dont have a big history on level of rivals after newcastle var drama

JOSE MOURINHO has claimed Tottenham’s lack of trophies mean they are treated differently to ‘big clubs’ following their 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Spurs were held to a point against the Magpies after the visitors were handed a controversial stoppage-time penalty.

Eric Dier was adjudged to have handled the ball with Callum Wilson slotting home the resulting spot-kick to cancel out Lucas Moura’s opener.

Mourinho stormed down the tunnel in fury while his goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos was sent-off AFTER the final whistle.

The Portuguese’s side play again on Tuesday as they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup during an unprecedented run of nine games in 24 days.

And Mourinho, who has already seen Son Heung-Min succumb to injury, claimed Tottenham’s fixture list is proof the club receives less respect than their rivals with bigger histories.

Tottenham is a big club but it’s a club where our history in terms of trophies is not as big as other clubs. I realise now the difference between clubs with big history and others

Jose Mourinho

He told Sky Sports: “It’s just the first one.

“I imagine that Tuesday another one, Thursday another one and maybe Sunday a couple more.

“But this is the respect that Tottenham gets. Tottenham is a big club but it’s a club where our history in terms of trophies is not as big as other clubs.

“I realise that. I’m coaching with a lot of passion, a lot of love.

“I love to be here, I don’t see myself leaving and going to another club because I love it so much.

“But I realise now the difference between clubs with big history and others.”

Mourinho also claimed that Son is set to be out for a ‘while’ but the Special One admitted that Dele Alli is expected to stay at the club.

rangers star ryan kent getting close to england call up after stunning start to season predicts gary mcallister scaled

RANGERS No.2 Gary McAllister believes Ryan Kent must be ‘getting close’ to an England call-up.

The attacker continued his fine start to the season with his fifth goal of the season during the 4-0 win over Willem II in the Europa League third round on Thursday.

The former Liverpool youngster also played a part in two other goals that night before helping Steven Gerrard‘s men to a 5-1 win at Motherwell on Sunday.

Kent has represented England at Under-18 and Under-20 level on a handful of occasions.

And Ibrox assistant McAllister said in the build-up to the Motherwell game he believes the 23-year-old “must be getting close” to a first senior cap.

He said: “What I’d say is that when he’s performing the way he did against a team from Holland – Williem II are a good side who are in the Europa League on merit – then he must be getting close.

“There is a push towards younger players with the England set-up under Gareth Southgate. And Ryan is exciting.

“I don’t want to be shouting from the rooftops but there is a player here who is in really good form.”

Gers boss Gerrard hailed Kent for his inspiring performance in the Netherlands.

He said: “From an attacking point of view, I think Ryan was the game changer for us tonight.

“He does incredibly well running in behind and he has added that into his game this season.

“He gets us the penalty for the breakthrough and he is just a constant threat. He is so sharp and he has added a different dimension to his game.

“He is a pleasure to watch and coach and we just need to enjoy him.”
