ole gunner solskjaer hails fantastic manchester united for their response to tottenham defeat

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hailed the ‘fantastic’ response of his Manchester United players to their 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham – having admitted they ‘weren’t in shape’ at the start of the season.

United started the campaign poorly, losing their Premier League opener to Crystal Palace before being humiliated at Old Trafford by Jose Mourinho’s side.

But they have responded in fine fashion, going four games unbeaten since including wins over Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig to take command of their Champions League group.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s home game with Arsenal, Solskjaer said: ‘I think any result as brutal as a 6-1 would have to get a response and, of course, it has been dealt with internally.

‘We’ve tweaked a couple of things, got players fit and I think the manner of defeat wasn’t something we should ever have to be confronted with again.

‘Then again, these things happen in football these days and the response has been fantastic. We wanted to finish that off as soon as we could and move forward.’

Solskjaer said after Wednesday’s 5-0 win over Leipzig that his players had not been fit enough prior to the October international break.

‘The truth is that we were not in shape before the international break,’ he told TV2. ‘Now we are fit and we are sharp and it has only gotten better and better.

‘We are always working to be stable and I think we have been stable ever since February. We’re lost one of the last eight, which I think is pretty consistent.

‘Our squad is good and it gives us many opportunities. We can play in different formations but the key is how we execute it. I am very happy at the moment.’

allan says everton manager carlo ancelotti is fantastic and he is settled in the premier league

Everton midfielder Allan has revealed that he has a close admirer in manager Carlo Ancelotti – and the feeling is very much mutual.

The Brazilian worked with Ancelotti while the Italian coach was the Napoli manager for 18 months between 2018 and 2019. He said Ancelotti was still helping him develop since the pair reunited on Merseyside.

‘Working with Ancelotti is fantastic. To work with someone who has won all the major trophies is marvellous,’ Allan told talkSPORT.

‘You learn a lot from him every day in training. I’m really proud that a coach of that pedigree, who has had such a career, likes me and admires my football.

‘Hopefully together, here at Everton, we can achieve the things this club deserves.’

Ancelotti made no secret of his desire to bring Allan to the Toffees and secured the £21million transfer in September. At the time, Allan referred to ‘Professor Ancelotti’ and said he had done ‘everything possible to bring me here’.

The Brazil international has flourished during his time at Everton and he is a key player for Ancelotti, playing in all but one Premier League match and completing 90 minutes every time.

To that end, Allan said he feels settled in English football. ‘The settling in and adaptation has been really relaxed and easy.

‘It’s not just my South American team-mates who have helped, my English teammates have also given me a lot of help, and the club give you all the necessary support to do you job.’

On the pitch, Allan said his combative midfield style has prepared him well for the rigours of Premier League football.

‘The Premier League is a competition with a lot of contact, very competitive and very intense,’ he said. ‘Without a doubt, my game is suited to the Premier League style.’

Having made his name playing for Udinese and Napoli in Italy, Allan is hoping to learn from English football to improve his game.

‘I had great seasons in Italy in the Udinese shirt and with Napoli. I’m really happy with what I achieved there,’ he said.

‘I learnt a lot as a football player, but also as a person. I grew a lot from being in Italy and I hope I can continue this in England, playing great games for Everton and winning the hearts of the Everton fans.’

Allan’s defensive midfield skills will no doubt be critical as Everton seek to get back to winning ways against Burnley on Saturday.

After a flying start that saw them top the league for the first few weeks, the Toffees have lost four of their previous five games and sit in eighth place.

Allan said: ‘We’ve studied them [Burnley] a lot, we know what the qualities and strengths are of the opponent, so it will be a very physical game.

‘There will be a lot of battles on the pitch and I hope that we can control the game and it’ll be a good victory for us and we get the win that we’re all hoping for.’

He may have scored the final goal for Braga in a 4-2 win over AEK Athens to seal a last-32 spot in the Europa League but Thursday night was all about Wenderson Galeno’s moment of magic.

The 23-year-old effortlessly controlled a high, lofted ball onto his left foot, even balancing it briefly whilst he himself was levitating off the ground.

The outrageous piece of skill was the highlight of a dazzling display and quickly went viral

Championship club Reading were previously linked with the young forward, and were rumoured to be interested in taking him on loan with a view to a permanent deal in the summer of 2019.

However, Galeno eventually signed for Braga from fellow Portuguese club Porto that summer for a fee of £2.7 million.

Since signing, he has made 54 appearances, scoring 12 goals and notching 17 assists for Carlos Carvahal’s side.

Braga are currently second in the Primeira Liga, four points behind leaders Sporting Lisbon and travel to Belenenses on Sunday.

EDDIE HEARN was mocked by Sky Sports viewers for his ‘rascal 80s chic’ outfit as cricket legend Freddie Flintoff asked “what’s he wearing?”.

Matchroom promoter Hearn was starring on TV as Billy Joe Saunders defended his WBO super middleweight title with a points victory over Martin Murray.

But his eye-catching get-up stole the show, sending social media into a frenzy.

Celeb pal Flintoff called out Hearn on Twitter and wrote “What is @EddieHearn wearing @SkySportsBoxing” alongside a face palm emoji.

Boxing supremo Hearn, 41, saw the funny side and defended his outfit.

He replied: “Vintage 80’s chic mate you will be in it next year.”

Hearn’s zip-neck polo shirt in grey-marl caused quite a stir online and is sold by fashion giants Reiss.

The top is currently on sale for £60 with almost 50 per cent hacked off the list price of £115… and you can see why.

It is advertised along with the suggestion to ‘Style it with tailored trousers, trainers and finish with a bomber jacket for a refined weekend look.’

And Hearn appeared to take the manufacturers’ advice with a smart pair of light grey trousers twinned with his retro polo for the Friday night fight.

But boxing fans tore into Hearn online, with one suggesting he was: “Going crown green bowling after – either that or hosting bullseye.”

Another jibed: “Eddie you look like the new face of Jacamo!!”

A third joked: “80s is the age group not the era.”

A fight fanatic added: “Absolute rascal clobber from @EddieHearn tonight #SaundersMurray #boxing #SkySports.”
