Paul Pogba claims Manchester United have made ‘huge’ improvements

paul pogba claims manchester united have made huge improvements

Paul Pogba insists there is no limit to how much Manchester United can keep improving after claiming their impressive post-lockdown form is down to finding a balance.

United have won four of their five Premier League games since the coronavirus outbreak, drawing at Tottenham being their only points slip up.

They take on Southampton on Monday night looking for a sixth consecutive victory in all competitions, one that would take them up to third in front of Chelsea and Leicester City in the Premier League table.

Pogba believes their huge improvement shows no sign of slowing down, which has also seen him show his best form in a midfield partnership with Bruno Fernandes.

‘Like I said before, it’s about the team,’ Pogba told Manchester United’s website. ‘You can call it a proper team.

‘Sometimes before, we were maybe too defensive or too offensive and we didn’t have this balance or this control; now you can see we have that balance and there is more structure and we’ve been working hard on that.

‘The improvement is huge and you can tell that. It’s always good to have that improvement, but you don’t want to stop it, you know you have to keep working. There is a lot of stuff to do, we are not there yet but we are on the way, and if we keep doing what we’re doing now, then I think there is nothing that can stop us to get to where we should be.’

As well as trying to claim a Champions League place for next season, Pogba also insists it is important United try to end the season with silverware.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the last-16 of the Europa League and the midfielder believes winning a major trophy has to be a target for the season.

‘United is about trophies, we know that. And there are trophies we know we can get and we can win,’ he added.

‘We don’t want to let this opportunity go away. We’re going to do our best to go and get those two trophies by giving everything.

‘We feel great. That is the mentality now – you have a positive mentality when you have a good result, but you also have to have the ability to get through the games like we did in the last few games.’

Timo Werner admits to having doubts over Chelsea transfer after watching defeat to Bayern Munich

timo werner admits to having doubts over chelsea transfer after watching defeat to bayern munich

Timo Werner has admitted doubts crept into his mind over moving to Chelsea from RB Leipzig after they were taught a lesson by Bayern Munich at Stamford Bridge.

Bayern, who would go on to win the Champions League, convincingly overcame Chelsea 3-0 in the first-leg of their last-16 tie thanks to a double from Serge Gnabry and a Robert Lewandowski strike.

The defeat showed just how much work Frank Lampard has on his hands to get Chelsea back among Europe’s elite and the club’s £53million new boy, Werner, was left surprised by the result.

When asked if he was shocked by the manner of their elimination, also losing 4-1 away from home to get dumped out 7-1 on aggregate, Werner told Sport Bild: ‘I would be lying if I said it wasn’t like that.

‘The 3-0 home defeat of Chelsea in the first leg against Bayern didn’t exactly speak in favour of going to London.

‘I have to say that openly, because with Leipzig we always played very good and close games against Bayern.’

But Werner did go on to admit that the European defeat has helped Chelsea in the long run, as it made the club realise what they needed to do to close the gap.

The Blues have enjoyed a £230m spending spree this summer, with Werner moving to Stamford Bridge alongside Kai Havertz (£89m), Ben Chilwell (£50m), Hakim Ziyech (£38m), Thiago Silva (free) and Malang Sarr (free).

Werner: ‘By showing Chelsea the weak points, the club was able to work on the pieces of the puzzle in order to catch up with the future Champions League winner FC Bayern. That’s what Chelsea did.’

After splashing the cash this summer, Chelsea have been tipped by some to fight for the Premier League title with Liverpool and Manchester City.

However, Chelsea still have plenty of work to do to compete with England’s best after going down 2-0 to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge last weekend – with Sadio Mane scoring twice in the second half to capitalise on Andreas Christensen’s red card.
