robert lewandowski vows to push new bayern munich team mate leroy sane

Robert Lewandowski has vowed to constantly push new Bayern Munich team-mate Leroy Sane in training to ensure he fulfills his undoubted potential.

The 24-year-old moved back to his native Germany this summer after completing a £55million transfer from Manchester City

Sane fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola at City and looked likely to leave the club before suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in the Community Shield over 12 months ago.

He couldn’t work his way back into Guardiola’s plans when fit again and was keen to leave the Premier League club.

Now he has the chance to start afresh in his homeland and, although his quality is there for all to see, Lewandowski has promised to help Sane realise his potential.

‘I want to push him hard in every single training to make him realise what he doesn’t know he has,’ the Polish striker said during a media Zoom call on Tuesday.

‘I want him to work harder to show something special because he’s an amazing guy and I think with him we can play another tactical system very well.

‘That’s why I see his massive potential and in my experience you have to push these players to make them play better and better.

‘I know he has huge talent and if you work hard and train at 100 per cent then you will become a better player.’

After an extremely short summer break Bayern Munich begin their 2020-21 Bundesliga campaign against Schalke on Friday night.

It comes after they completed a memorable treble last season by beating Paris-Saint Germain in the Champions League final on August 23.

They thrashed Barcelona 8-2 in the quarter-finals, prompting a mass overhaul at the Nou Camp.

Speaking about that game, Lewandowski claims his team-mates were always confident they would beat Lionel Messi and Co.

He said: ‘Before the Barcelona game we were talking about how we were feeling and we felt we were very strong before we got to Portugal.

‘I spoke with one player and he said “we are going to win 5-1”. I said “okay, that would be great”. We knew we were the strongest team and playing well.

‘It didn’t matter how many goals we had scored we wanted more. Everyone here knew we could win the Champions League this time and then it happened.’

Bayern are favourites to retain the Bundesliga in the upcoming campaign, despite the threat of a promising Borussia Dortmund team spearheaded by Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho.

There is also huge fixture congestion to deal with caused by the delayed start to the season and Lewandowski is wary of the challenges that lay ahead for Hansi Flick’s side.

‘We know next season will be the most difficult of our lives for every club,’ the 32-year-old, who scored 55 goals in  47 appearances last season, added.

‘We have games every three days without a break.

‘That will be difficult and we have to be ready not only for the game but also with our bodies and physical things.

‘It is going to be something we’ve never had in our lives. I don’t know what kind of goals I can set.

‘I just want to play my best and score as many goals as I can. First place is always the team’s goal.’

pierre emerick aubameyang reveals mikel arteta was reason behind new arsenal deal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang admits that Mikel Arteta was the deciding factor in him committing to Arsenal this summer.

The Gunners skipper ended speculation over his future by signing a new three-year deal worth £350,000-a-week this month.

And it was the man who has led the club to two trophies in his first nine months in charge who proved so influential in convincing the talismanic Gabonese striker to stay in north London

‘Two things persuaded me to stay,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘The first thing was Mikel Arteta, because since he came in he brings a lot of positivity and a new philosophy for us.

‘I think that was important because it matched my game and I feel that I can improve with him. I think this was the key factor and as well, the love that I receive from the fans and the whole club.’

The 31-year-old revealed that Arteta was an instant hit at the Emirates when he took over in December, and divulged his unusual method of cultivating team harmony on his first day.

He continued: ‘When he came, the first day, we were in a room where I remember there were some chairs on the floor, everywhere in the room.

‘So he brings the players, the staff and all the people working here and he said “This is the club right now, so you’re going to work altogether and first of all, clean this room, and then we’re going to talk.”

‘After this you think “OK, I think he’s right, and we’re going to follow this way” and this is how he made it and we have a lot of respect for him because he was a player as well.

‘When you have a coach who knows what they’re doing, you just have to follow.’

Liverpool v Arsenal preview: Can Arteta stun Klopp?

liverpool v arsenal preview can arteta stun klopp

It’s been a perfect start to the season for Arsenal and Liverpool but something is about to give.

The two clubs face each other twice in the space of four days, a mouthwatering Premier League showdown on Monday night before a Carabao Cup fourth-round meeting on Thursday evening.

Both games are at Anfield and should give us a much much better understanding of where the teams are at, in terms of their squad depth and, more importantly, their prospects this season.

It’s been three wins apiece for the two red-shirted sides since they met in this season’s Community Shield curtain raiser.

The Gunners won that glorified friendly on penalties and the positivity in the camp has continued ever since, Premier League victories over Fulham and West Ham followed by a Carabao Cup triumph over Leicester.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have picked up where they left off last season, beating Leeds and Chelsea in the top flight and sealing their place in the League Cup fourth round with a 7-2 thrashing of Lincoln.

Arsenal fans will certainly be more optimistic about this one than they have been for a long time as their team heads to a ground where they haven’t won since 2012 – when a Robin van Persie double cancelled out Laurent Koscielny’s own goal.

They have been on the wrong end of some memorable thrashings in those eight years but Mikel Arteta’s team looks unlikely to suffer the same fate this time around.

The north Londoners have undoubtedly become far more organised and harder to break down since their former player Arteta took charge.

New centre-back Gabriel Magalhaes has started impressively looks to be exactly what the side needed – we are yet to see the highly-rated William Saliba.

Arteta’s men have conceded just once in three games this season. In fact, they have only let in 28 goals in 32 matches since Spaniard Arteta took charge in December.

Their performances in big games have also improved significantly. Five of their last nine matches have been wins over members of last season’s top five, two of those against Liverpool.

If anything, creativity could be Arsenal’s biggest issue in a game like this, the midfield now clearly the weakest area of this team. You sense this won’t be a game where they get too many chances and when they do get them, they’ll have to take them.

The Gunners may be resurgent under Arteta but there is no doubt that they are the underdogs heading into this one. They are almost 6/1 with some bookies just to win while the hosts are no better than 8/15, according to oddschecker.com, with the draw 19/5.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 60 Premier League home games stretching back to April 2017 – the third-longest such streak in English top-flight history.

They won the league at a canter last season and there is still a large gap in quality between the two sides.

However, their opening-day thriller against newly-promoted Leeds at Anfield could give the visitors some hope, Klopp’s side conceding three and needing a late penalty from Mohamed Salah to snatch the three points.

The Reds did look far more like their usual selves with a big 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge in their following outing and you have to fancy them to win this one if they play in a similar manner.
