Sevilla have been the best of the rest in Spain this season, sitting in third-place behind the two usual suspects in the table but just five points ahead of seventh-placed Valencia.

Keep a well-trained eye on Sevilla striker Lucas Ocampos, who’s the club’s top scorer in La Liga this season with ten goals so far.

He’s netted in each of Sevilla’s last four league appearances and is 7/2 to score first here with Ladbrokes.

Putting a fiver on this tip would return £22.50 if it comes in.

Betis have been in appalling form away from home this season, winning just one of their 13 games on the road so far.

We like the look of Sevilla to win to nil at 23/10.

Racing Gossip: Trackman is back with the latest paddock talk as he lines up some bets at Newbury and Ayr on Saturday

GET ready for a Caledonian cavalry charge.

We are not talking about a stampede to the boozer before one of Matt Hancock’s early closing curfews.

This is the Ayr Gold Cup and it’s harder to crack than the Enigma code.

Mind you, William Hill report good money for the jolly Mr Lupton.

Richard Fahey’s flyer made Joe Wicks look like a coach potato when dotting up in Ireland last weekend.

He bounced out of that better than Zebedee and is an each-way bet to nothing.

And don’t forget Hills are going six places in the big race.

Biggest surprise of the weekend is that mighty Mark Johnston isn’t represented in the Gold Cup.

But Braveheart’s fan club certainly picked a pocket or two when Mister Allegro (14-1 to 17-2) landed a touch at Kempton Park on Tuesday.

Funnily enough ‘picking pockets’ has been the salvation of this fella.

Don’t miss the best of Sun Racing

You see, he has improved a stone since being gelded.

Anyway, Brazilian bullet Silvestre De Sousa says the horse will win again so stick him in your tracker.

Meanwhile, SDS misses Ayr and schleps down to Newbury this afternoon.

And the word is our former champ is expecting to collect on Sir Michael Stoute’s Aerion Power in the opener.

Mr Magoo spotted this one running a cracker on his debut and the Newmarket gallop watchers will be pleading poverty if he gets turned over.

There is no chance of Sir Alex Ferguson rattling a begging bowl.

But the great man must have been distraught after his well-backed Florence Street dropped anchor in an all-weather maiden.

Jockey Oisin Murphy looked baffled by the run. Then again, he probably had a result.

If the owner had turned-up he might have copped the `hairdryer’ treatment.

Fingers crossed, a few lucky punters will be able to attend meetings at Warwick and Newmarket next week.

ATALANTA’S BOY (2.30, Ayr) won well at Goodwood last time and has a massive each-way chance.

But getting into a racecourse is still almost Mission Impossible.

And that reminds me of a colourful character called Johnny The Slip. Now Johnny had an aversion to opening his wallet.

As a result, he developed several dubious schemes to swerve the turnstiles.

The most successful was a simple routine known as `the bucket’. Our man would wait in his motor with a plastic bucket in hand.

When a horsebox unloaded, he jumped out and followed the runner into the racecourse stables chatting away as if he was one of the stable-lads. It worked like a charm for years.

Mind you, Johnny did end up buying enough buckets to start a coast-to-coast window cleaning company.

Finally, if you want a jumper to follow try Suzy Smith’s Animal.

This fella raised a few eyebrows when he bolted-up in a bumper last spring. And it wasn’t long before a `telephone number’ offer arrived from one of jumping’s biggest owners.

But the man with the money wanted to move the horse to Nicky Henderson.

Suzy couldn’t wave adios to the apple of her eye so vetoed the sale.

As a result, she’s got an angry accountant and classy hurdler on her books.

Chelsea boss Lampard gushes over Werner as he is set to face Liverpool who wanted to sign him

chelsea boss lampard gushes over werner as he is set to face liverpool who wanted to sign him

Timo Werner was a transfer coup. Liverpool wanted him and Chelsea got him, and, as the teams prepared to meet on Sunday, Frank Lampard made it clear he could not be happier with the explosive start made by the man they call ‘Turbo’.

‘He’s incredibly talented,’ gushed Lampard. ‘He’s robust, so I’ve no doubt he can handle the Premier League and the size of the opposition, and he’s very low maintenance. He comes in, he trains, he works hard, he lives right and he wants to come here and be a success.’

Chelsea’s head coach recalled conversations with Werner ahead of his £54million move from RB Leipzig, and how he liked to delve into social media accounts of his transfer targets to check details about their personality.

When Werner spoke this week, he supported this image of sensible young professional, explaining how he was gripped by Lampard’s ‘outlook’ and inside info from Antonio Rudiger, his international team-mate now helping him navigate the complexities of London’s Congestion Charge.

‘Important help, otherwise I’d be getting a bill every day,’ noted Werner, before discussing his nickname, running 100m in 11.1 seconds in his mid-teens and surmising that he’s probably ‘a bit faster’ at 24.

Kai Havertz was talking, too, revealing how it was always his ‘dream’ to play for Chelsea and promising not to be weighed-down by a record £89m fee to sign him from Bayer Leverkusen.

Werner is hungry to score his first Premier League goal on Sunday against Liverpool

As Liverpool confirmed the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich and made a move for Diogo Jota of Wolves, the Londoners were rolling out the firepower like a Soviet-style parade through Red Square.

Was it a symbolic if unusually subtle two-fingered salute from those at the Bridge? Or pure coincidence?

The relationship between the clubs has been prickly at times, even if both managers were at pains to stress no bitterness lingered from an angry touchline exchange at Anfield two months ago. ‘There’s nothing in it for me,’ said Lampard. ‘The competitive nature of the 90 minutes can always slightly boil over.

‘What he’s done at Liverpool has been incredible. The respect I have for Jurgen Klopp will never change.’

Klopp, too, was keen to end any notion of a simmering personal feud. ‘I have no problems, none at all with Frank Lampard,’ he said.

‘He’s probably a nice guy, I don’t know because I don’t know him privately and he doesn’t know me.’

The Liverpool manager blamed the media for stoking his comments about the post- pandemic transfer activity of those clubs ‘owned by countries and oligarchs’.

Lampard’s response at the time was to feign amusement and reel off a list of Liverpool signings. Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah were ‘incredible players’, he said, and they came at ‘very high prices’.

All of which might have been interpreted differently had it not been for July, when Chelsea’s head coach launched an X-rated tirade at Klopp’s assistant Pep Lijnders because he was ‘smiling’ and ‘smirking’ and, in his view, breaking the ‘code’ of the touchline.

Chelsea have been very busy this summer with Kai Havertz becoming their record signing

Lampard warned Liverpool about getting ‘too arrogant’ and Klopp responded with a patronising dressing down, about how ‘he has to learn’ not to take touchline disagreements into the public arena.

The flashpoint rekindled the spirit of a compelling rivalry, which emerged between the clubs in 2004-05 when Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez first locked in combat and Lampard was the goal threat at the heart of Chelsea’s midfield.

The teams met 24 times in five years, often for high stakes and with Mourinho stirring trouble and trying to lure Steven Gerrard to Stamford Bridge.

Klopp and Lampard have both made comments about the other team's high-priced signings

‘As a player I felt the adrenalin for a game at this level,’ said Lampard. ‘A team like Liverpool would always put more on the game. Chelsea were competing to win the leagues and Liverpool not so much. In the Champions League, we drew each other a lot and those games were ultra- competitive and difficult for us.

‘In the last few years, Liverpool have been fighting at the top and last year they win it. We are trying to improve, trying to close the gap. Both squads, coaches and fan-bases are very driven to win. That’s what the Premier League is all about.’

Chelsea are in combat mode. They will resist the urge to say it but they will have sights on the top of the Premier League after their recruitment drive. Lampard will be keen to land an early blow on the champions and he will look to ‘Turbo’ to lead the charge.

liverpool secure wolves forward diogo jota as a new back up option for their front three

Liverpool have completed a £41million deal with Wolves for Diogo Jota, signing the forward who will provide competition for their front three.

Jota has signed a five-year contract after Liverpool switched their attentions to him, having initially spoken to Watford about signing Ismaila Sarr.

Relegated Watford, however, were looking for a fee in excess of £50m for the Senegal forward.

Jota has long been admired by Jurgen Klopp with his pace and attacking threat bringing 16 goals for himself last season and countless chances for others.

Liverpool want to sell Rhian Brewster for around £20m but with buy back and sell on clauses and want the same for winger Harry Wilson.

Sheffield United are among the clubs chasing a deal for Brewster along with Crystal Palace. West Brom had been interested in a loan.

Jota was omitted from the Wolves squad for the Carabao Cup defeat by Stoke City on Thursday night, having been an unused substitute for the win over Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday.

Liverpool followed up their interest just hours after securing the signing of Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich in a deal that could be worth up to £25m.

Jota was at Molineux for his side’s league cup game on Thursday but was not named either in the starting XI or on the bench, and his manager declined the opportunity to explain his absence.

Nuno was repeatedly offered the chance to clarify why the forward had missed out but he would only say: ‘He was not available for the game.

‘These are decisions we have to make, we have to protect the squad and take care of the players.

‘When a player is not on the list, sometimes he stays at home, sometimes he watches the match. You’re going to speculate a lot. He was not on the squad list, period.’

Jota will provide competition for Liverpool’s regular front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

The Portugal international made 48 appearances in all competitions last season, contributing 16 goals and six assists.

Sportsmail exclusively revealed that Liverpool youngster Ki-Jana Hoever is set to make a move in the opposite direction, with Wolves close to completing a £10m deal for the right back.
