Leicester goalkeeper Schmeichel launches defence of under fire Man United counterpart David de Gea

Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has launched an impassioned defence of David de Gea following criticism of his Manchester United counterpart’s form.

The Spaniard made one particularly high-profile error in United’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea last weekend by allowing Mason Mount’s hopeful shot to make its way past him, and was also slightly criticised for not managing to keep out Olivier Giroud’s opener.

Moreover, incidents such as Steven Bergwijn’s goal for Tottenham in United’s first game back following the restart, have raised doubts about the 29-year-old’s long-term future at Old Trafford.

De Gea could also face pressure for the No 1 shirt next season with the future of Dean Henderson – currently on loan at Sheffield United – yet to be decided.

But ahead of the Foxes’ decisive clash with United on the final day of the season – which will determine which of the two sides qualifies for next season’s Champions League – Schmeichel has come to the staunch defence of his fellow shot stopper.

The Dane told Sky Sports: ‘It can be very difficult and you’ve got to remember, and this is with absolutely no disrespect to journalists or pundits, but you’ve actually never stood in that goal.

‘You hear comments like, ‘going with the wrong hand’, or other throw away things that they’ll say which will make the consumer or viewer think, ‘oh yeah, that’s right, I see he’s done it again’.

‘That’s sometimes quite a dangerous narrative because all of a sudden it starts building momentum and for someone like David, I really feel for him because he has been unbelievable for so many years and every goalkeeper goes through periods [of poor form].

‘David de Gea is still a world-class goalkeeper. It’s a lonely position and those are the margins you play in as a goalkeeper – you simply cannot make mistakes because you will be punished.’

Schmeichel also insisted he has different fears for Henderson, citing the pressure young English goalkeepers come under, but the Dane hopes he will be given a couple more years to develop at Bramall Lane before returning to United.

‘There is a lot of pressure also in the sense that you now have an England goalkeeper coming through and, like it or not, in this country when you have an English goalkeeper, that means so much and they really do tend to build them up,’ Schmeichel continued.

‘I genuinely hope for someone like Dean Henderson, who’s had an amazing season, that he can be allowed to develop. I hope for him, he gets another season, maybe two at Sheffield United and play the way he’s done and then he’ll be ready.’

But Schmeichel believes Henderson should be allowed to develop further at Bramall Lane

kyle sandilands becomes emotional as he reveals his beloved pet dog has died from a heart attack

Kyle Sandilands has been left devastated after the sudden death of his pet dog.

The 49-year-old broke the sad news on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday, revealing the animal had a heart attack after suffering with a leg problem that prevented her from standing.

‘I lost a dog last week… that was very sad,’ he said during a segment with celebrity pet psychic Amanda De Warren.

‘She kept collapsing,’ Kyle explained, confirming Amanda’s suspicions that the dog had been suffering from ‘mobility issues’.

‘Was this a heart problem as well?’ Amanda asked.

‘Yes, she died of a heart attack, yeah,’ Kyle replied, his voice wavering as he fought back tears.

Thankfully, the psychic assured him that his dog was doing well in the afterlife, and was surrounded by Kyle’s other deceased animals.

‘Oh yeah, I’ve got a lot of animals. I’ve got 100 animals,’ Kyle said, before sharing another tragic detail of his dog’s death.

‘I haven’t actually spent time with the dog because all the animals are with my ex,’ he confessed, referring to his former partner Imogen Anthony.

‘We haven’t been together for a while now so it was a shock.’

Imogen currently lives on the $3million Southern Highlands farm she purchased with ex-boyfriend Kyle prior to their split last November.

Despite their breakup, the former couple have refused to sell the sprawling ranch because their 100 rescue animals still live there.

The blonde beauty recently opened up to E! News about the first time she watched her sister’s new documentary, which premiered last week on YouTube.

She recounted: ‘It was very, very emotional. We watched it for the first time. She didn’t even want to show my mother the movie. So we snuck downstairs and we were watching it together.

‘She said, “I don’t want mom to see it.” I was like, “Well she’s going to see it in a few weeks when it’s on YouTube for the whole world to see.”‘

‘In response to my recent post… it’s hard to get back to everyone so I’d like to thank you so much from my heart to yours to each and everyone of you who in your own way reached out to me,’ Ali wrote.

She added: ‘Or shared it with someone who need to see they’re not alone and give them strength.’

In the image, Ali smiles and puts on a brave face as she enjoys a cup of coffee.

She also shared a picture of herself with Bachelor star Elora Tahiti, as they caught up for brunch.

On Tuesday, Ali broke down in floods of tears in a devastating video on Instagram, as she attempts to move on from her ex-boyfriend of two years, Taite Radley.

Alongside heartbreaking footage of herself wiping tears from her mascara-stained eyes, the 34-year-old admitted she ‘still loves’ her ex – but added that they ‘don’t align’.

‘You always see happy me. This is me today and has been my daily occurrence since my breakup,’ she wrote.

‘It’s bloody slow healing, sadness and hurt fill my whole body. Meditation, Yoga, exercise, nature, cooking, family, friends and focusing on my goals allows for my peaceful spirit to just be.

‘I’ve never experienced anything like this where my soul still feels connected, I still love but know we don’t align.’

She went on to say that anyone going through a break-up is ‘not alone’.

‘I want to share this to inspire strength in you, as you do me, because I know you’re also going through a break up or you’re finding it extremely tough atm in these huge world changes and darkness we’re being exposed too,’ she continued.

‘WE ARE GROWING STRONGER, AWAKENING to PURGE THE HATRED and are ASCENDING to be FREED FROM CONDITIONAL PATTERNS and CAN THEN BE DIRECTED BY OUR SOULS.’

She signed off with the message: ‘We’re all equal beings and hopefully by now waking up to our true essence, our true nature which is only LOVE.
