Martha Stewart was forced to push away Drew Barrymore mid-interview after the television host started stroking her shoulder.

The businesswoman, 83, was a guest on Tuesday’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, which made a point of celebrating her legacy and paid homage to her as the ‘original’ influencer.

The interview went slightly off topic, however, when Drew, 49, bit her finger and playfully asked Martha: ‘What makes you soft and gooey?’

Eventually, Martha replied: ‘Soft and gooey treatment.’

‘Soft and gooey treatment?’ mom-of-two Drew repeated, as she proceeded to start caressing her guest’s arm. ‘When you’re treated like a lady?’

‘It’s nice,’ Martha confirmed.

‘When someone comes in…’ Drew continued, but before she could complete her sentence Martha batted her away while declaring ‘you’re the wrong gender!’

‘I know, I know,’ the E.T. actress relented as she dramatically fell back on the sofa.

‘Although, the way it’s going with men though, Martha, I’m not so sure anymore.’

The uncomfortable moment was soon over though when one of Drew’s dogs came up to the sofa, making for a nice distraction.

The Hollywood talent then heaped praise on her guest for ‘opening the door for everyone’ throughout her life.

‘As much as we’re here to honor you today, I want to thank you also for honoring every person that you’ve influenced in the world too,’ she said.

Drew is no stranger to getting up close and personal with her guests on the show.

Last December, she was blasted as ‘clingy, creepy, and cringe’ for caressing Oprah Winfrey’s arm during an interview.

More recently, her interview technique was branded ‘invasive’ by uncomfortable viewers after she sat close to Austin Butler on the sofa.

In August, Drew explained why she sits so close to her celebrity guests, revealing that being a people person is her main motivator.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, she said: ‘Well, I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point.

‘You know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself I like to be around people.

‘It’s not everyone’s favorite, but I’m sorry to those people.

‘I think that first of all we’re always gonna be big on joy and laughter and feeling good, and that was something I always wanted to do, but I never thought we would launch in a pandemic, and trying to lean into the joy and the feel good and the comedy at that time was real weird and wacky.’
