The unusual sight of a massive male turkey wandering around an Australian shopping centre has been shared on social media.

The bird is a north American breed – far larger than an Australian brushturkey – and was filmed in the doorway of the Hype sneaker shop at the Watertown Brand Outlet complex in Perth.

But the bird hadn’t flown in by accident or out of curiosity.

He is known as Webber the Giant Turkey – part of Easter school holiday fun activities at Watertown.

Webber is part of the Incredible Creatures Mobile Animal Farm, which set up camp close to the sneaker shop at the brand outlet.

‘You little punks think you can shoplift? Not on my watch. Gobble gobble,’ one person wrote online upon seeing a photo of the bird.

Turkeys can be territorial and even dominant around humans, but Webber looked tame, calm and uninterested in the shoppers around him in the video.

Pedestrians and social media users remarked on the unusual sight.

‘Watertown’s new school holiday security guard is formidable,’ joked The Bell Tower Times on Twitter.

Webber usually lives at York around 100km west of Perth.
