Ben Affleck had a blistering response after his son Samuel asked him for $6,000 sneakers.
The Town actor, 52, made sure his 13-year-old understood that fortune is earned, not inherited, after a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1 shoes caught Sam’s eye at the Got Sole sneaker convention last week, telling him quite simply: ‘You’re broke.’
In a red carpet interview at SXSW this weekend, Affleck, who has a reported $150 million net worth, explained why he turned down the request.
‘He’s like “We have the money,”‘ the father-of-three told Access Hollywood. ‘I’m like “I have the money, you’re broke!”‘
‘That’s what happens when you tell a motherf***er they have to mow a lawn. All of a sudden they don’t want those shoes,’ Affleck, who shares his son’s love of sneakers, joked.
Affleck added that ‘there’s always some grift why I need to be buying… I’m like, man, you do not need thousand dollar shoes.’

In a video from the convention, shared on the Got Sole Instagram account, Affleck was seen telling his son, ‘That’s a lot of lawns you’ve gotta mow there.’
‘You just like those because they’re expensive,’ he added.
Sam replied, ‘No they’re tough! I always said they look good.’
The 2020 limited-edition low-tops, once $2,000, now command premium resale prices as collector’s items.
Sam then shared that his dad’s favorite sneakers are the Nike SB De La Soul.
Meanwhile Sam picked Air Dior’s and Nike Red October’s as his favorite sneakers.
Fans were impressed with Ben’s sensible response, with one writing, ‘Man knows the value of a dollar, he didn’t grow up with millions in the bank.’

The Boston-raised actor comes from humble beginnings.
In 2023, Affleck recounted how he and pal Matt Damon, 54, shared a bank account in their twenties.
While appearing on The Drew Barrymore Show he said that when he and Damon sold the rights to their Oscar winning script, Good Will Hunting, for $600,000, they believed they were ‘rich for life.’
However, after paying their agent, taxes, rent, and buying themselves a Jeep Cherokee each, they went ‘broke in six months.’
Aside from Samuel, Affleck also shares Violet, 19, and Fin, 16, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner, 52.
It comes days after a video of a sexy clinch between Garner and Affleck sparked speculation about them rekindling their romance, and left his second ex-wife, Jennifer Lopez, 55, ‘furious.’
In a video obtained exclusively by the Daily Mail, Affleck was seen tenderly embracing his ex-wife, and the mother of his three children.

The pair were paintballing at the Combat Paintball Park in Castaic near Los Angeles with two of their kids.
Affleck and Garner tied the knot in 2005 and divorced in 2018.
Garner has since been dating CaliBurger CEO John Miller, who was rattled by the clip according to sources.
Earlier this week it was reported that Garner is ‘deathly afraid of falling back in love’ with Ben, and still has ‘trust issues’ after he slept with their children’s nanny, Christine Ouzounian, now 37, a decade ago.
‘She loves Ben but is worried that he will crush her all over again,’ a source told DailyMail.com.
Meanwhile Lopez and Affleck settled their divorce on January 6, however, court documents confirmed the marriage wasn’t legally dissolved until February 21.
