British Fashion Awards 2019: Holly Willoughby joins stars

Published

on

It’s one of the biggest fashion nights of the year, where the red carpet is full of supermodels, style icons and designers making a sartorial statement.

And Rihanna made sure to lead the glamour as she joined Cate Blanchett and Julia Roberts at the star-studded British Fashion Awards 2019 in partnership with Swarovski at the historic Royal Albert Hall in Kensington, London, on Monday night.

The superstar, 31, made an entrance in a strapless mint green satin mini dress and wrapped a matching sheer dress coat over her statuesque frame.

Upping the style ante, the singer wore a pair of complementing gloves and satin strappy heels. She sported a statement diamond choker around her neck and complementing diamond earrings.

The beauty mogul, who’s brand Fenty is nominated in the Urban Luxe category, worked her raven-coloured hair into long braids as she posed for photos with ASAP Rocky.

Meanwhile, Blue Jasmine actress Cate, 50, looked exquisite in the shimmering ivory tulle Armani Privé dress that was sure to make an impact on the red carpet.

The Australian beauty’s look featured voluminous tulle ruffling around the neckline and accentuated her narrow waist with a thick satin belt.

She complemented her breathtaking fashion choice with a pair of striking diamond drop-earrings while her platinum blonde locks were styled off her face.

Following her style lead, Julia Roberts, 50, complemented Cate’s stunning look with an equally fashion forward black jumpsuit with crystal embellishment.

The film stars were guests of Italian designer Giorgio Armani, who looked dapper in a velvet double breasted tuxedo.

Getting the monochrome memo, Rita Ora turned up to the glitzy ceremony in a 16Arlington bespoke black and white panelled leather gown and dramatic blue make-up.

The dress was a floor-length affair, with a Bardot neckline and a matching choker. She added sharp white heels to the outfit, sweeping her mane back from her features to showcase her striking make-up to its full potential.

Elsewhere, This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby looked sensational in a purple and blue floral midi dress, which boasted ruching across the shoulders and torso.

The 38-year-old TV darling teamed the look with a pair of nude sandals and a bold red lip while her trademark blonde locks were worked into a tousled wave.

The fashionista, who was catapulted into the limelight on E4 series Made In Chelsea, accentuated her growing bump in the balloon sleeved look and complemented it with a pair of statement black stilettos with a metallic accent across the foot.

In a stylish move towards being more sustainable on the red carpet, the British beauty borrowed her gown from fashion rental marketplace, My Wardrobe HQ.

Continuing her style statement, she worked her brunette coif off her face into a sleek look and teamed her ensemble with a pair of diamond and green stoned drop-earrings.

Millie confirmed in recent weeks she is expecting a girl due in May 2020 with husband Hugo Taylor and said last month that she was craving ‘beige food’ throughout her first trimester and was missing exercise.

She said: ‘I’m starting to miss exercise. Normally I would do five sessions of weight training a week and HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes. But in the first 12 weeks, I’ve been told to keep to gentle exercise like walking or swimming.

‘You have to listen to your body. At six weeks, all I wanted to eat was beige food. The nausea made me crave toast and pasta.

‘I’ve enjoyed it, but now I’m craving fruit and vegetables so I’ve gone back to eating normally.’ Millie revealed her pregnancy news to Hello! and spoke of her joy.

She said: ‘Hearing her heartbeat for the first time with Hugo by my side was one of the most amazing moments of my life so far. I feel very lucky. I can’t wait to feel that bond and for her to sleep on my chest and breathe in that baby smell.’

She added: ‘I’m so excited it’s a girl. I would’ve been delighted with either, but when I found out we were having a girl, I suddenly realised this is what I really wanted.’

Back at the awards, Stella, 29, made sure to command attention as she stunned in a daring semi-sheer black gown with spaghetti straps and a thigh-high slit.

The model’s plunging look boasted a mixed paisley-print number that boasted ruffle detailing and a low black silhouette.

Prince Charles has advised the Government on how to save Britain’s forests, documents reveal

Published

on

By

He has been teased for shaking hands with trees and talking to plants but the Government has been seeking advice from Prince Charles on how to save Britain’s forests.

Documents obtained by The Mail on Sunday reveal that Sir William Worsley, the Government’s so-called ‘Tree Champion’, sought the wisdom of the Prince of Wales at a private meeting at Clarence House.

A briefing note prepared for Sir William entitled ‘State of the Forestry Sector’ includes a list of ‘questions to ask HRH’ in his capacity as an environmental campaigner and landowner.

Spadework: Campaigner Prince Charles planting a Scots pine in June. His wisdom was sought at a private meeting at Clarence House

Spadework: Campaigner Prince Charles planting a Scots pine in June. His wisdom was sought at a private meeting at Clarence House

They included: ‘Has HRH seen a decline in forestry production?

‘What does he see [as the] problems with the decline in the sector? Does HRH think we need to influence our stakeholders more in becoming one voice for forestry?’

Sir William, who is overseeing Government plans for a major tree planting campaign, admitted to Charles that the increasingly devolved nature of the Forestry Commission over decades meant it had lost its ‘power’ as ‘sector leader’.

The papers do not detail Charles's comments but he is currently expanding the woodland on his 130,000- acre Duchy of Cornwall estate

The papers do not detail Charles’s comments but he is currently expanding the woodland on his 130,000- acre Duchy of Cornwall estate

The agenda for the meeting on June 12 – included in a tranche of documents released under Freedom of Information rules – show the two men also discussed how the creation of new woodland, including so-called urban forests in towns and cities, could mitigate the effects of global warming.

The papers do not detail Charles’s comments but he is currently expanding the woodland on his 130,000- acre Duchy of Cornwall estate and recently told an ITV documentary: ‘I love planting trees and trying to improve and enhance the environment to restore lost habitats.’

In a TV interview in 1986, the Prince famously said it was ‘very important’ to talk to plants and that they ‘respond’ when spoken to.

His views were ridiculed by many commentators.

Last year, a list of 70 facts about Charles – released to coincide with his 70th birthday – included one about his involvement in many tree planting ceremonies. ‘After planting each tree, HRH gives a branch a friendly shake to wish them well,’ it stated.

The request by officials to hear the Prince’s views contrasts with his previous involvement in Government affairs, including his so-called ‘black spider’ memos to Ministers that critics said was an inappropriate bid to influence policy.

Last night, a Clarence House spokesman declined to comment.

Ryan Reynolds put his superhero reflexes to use as he narrowly avoided being crushed by a collapsing stage barrier separating him from a swarm of fans in Brazil.

The star, 43, was attending the third day of CCXP in Sao Paulo, Brazil to promote his new film, Free Guy, in front of raucous fans.

And the near miss happened as he approached the crowd at one of the booths, and the barrier near the stage came crashing down, nearly crushing him.

In the moments before, Reynolds was on a stage waving and working the loud and excited audience, when he decided to jump down to the ground to greet fans.

Just as he approached them, those big barriers gave way to the pressure of the people pushing against it, and fell down with major force, which sent many fans falling forward.

Showing amazingly fast reflexes, the actor took a step back before making a quick jump nearly backwards back onto the stage to avoid injury.

Commotion ensued as stage workers rushed to make sure Reynolds was okay.

He appeared stunned and worried for the sea of fans who were at the event promoting his new dark comedy action film Free Guy.

After assuring people he was not hurt, a spooked-looking Reynolds hopped back down to the ground and began asking people if they too were alright.

Alex Rodriguez Hilariously Crashes Jennifer Lopez’s ‘SNL’ Hosting Gig

Published

on

By

Alex Rodriguez sweetly supported his fiancée Jennifer Lopez’s turn as Saturday Night Live host during the Saturday, December 7, episode by getting in on the jokes.

Forever Love

Rodriguez crashed Lopez’s sketch in which she flirted with her roadie, Pete Davidson’s recurring character Chad, and admitted her feelings for him. The former baseball player showed up with flowers and found the two slow-dancing, but she chose her fiancé in the end. “What more could a girl want?” she asked at one point. “I mean, he was a Yankee.”

Year of J. Lo

Lopez listed her roster of accomplishments from 2019 during her monologue, noting that she has “been so blessed” this year. “I got what every girl from the Bronx dreams of: proposed to by a Yankee,” she gushed before breaking out the biggest smile.

The songstress went on to reflect on her walk at Milan Fashion Week, during which she wore a revamped version of her iconic Versace dress from 2000. “Some people said I look better now than I did then, and I’m not bragging. That’s just, you know, gossip,” she quipped. Lopez then broke into a rendition of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” which concluded with her stripping out of her black tuxedo and into the revealing gown.

Bringing the Funny

Jimmy Fallon, Paul Rudd and James Corden kicked off the show with a star-studded cold open as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, respectively. The “bad boys” of NATO cut up in the politically charged sketch, which also featured Alec Baldwin as President Donald Trump.

Reality Show Shocker

Lopez and Mikey Day starred as a couple who won a home makeover from HGTV, but the host and the rest of the cast could not figure out why the pair were together, given his obsession with Smurfs, unemployed status and nerdy nature.

Sibling Rivalry

Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon shined as sisters arguing over their beauty while anticipating the arrival of an eligible bachelor. Lopez, for her part, played their other sibling, who had never seen her reflection and had no idea about her sex appeal.

Saturday Night Live airs on NBC Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET.
