Corrie’s Kym Marsh ‘lands her first major TV role since quitting soap as she joins The Syndicate’

Published

on

She departed her role as Michelle Connor in December 2019, after almost 14 years of playing the popular character on long-running ITV soap Coronation Street.

And Kym Marsh, 43, is reportedly set to make a return to screens after taking her final stroll along Corrie’s cobbles, with sources revealing she’s landed a role in writer Kay Mellor’s hit BBC anthology series The Syndicate.

A source told The Sun: ‘Landing a part in The Syndicate is something of a coup for Kym, as Kay is still viewed as one of telly’s top writers.

‘And she has shown to have the pulling power to attract big-name actors to her projects, so Kym is likely to be in good company with this cast.

‘This will be viewed as a prestigious first step to carving out a new chapter in her career after leaving Corrie.’

MailOnline has contacted representatives for Kym Marsh for comment.

The latest series will reportedly focus on a group of dog kennel staffers based in Leeds who win the lottery. Filming will also take place in Las Vegas.

Last year, Kym became a grandmother to her 22-year-old daughter Emilie Cunliffe’s son Teddy in May.

The soap actress joined her daughter in the delivery room and served as her birthing partner, which they previously revealed was always going to be the case because they ‘do everything together’.

Joining Kym in the birthing room was Emilie’s boyfriend and father of the baby Mike Hoszowskyj, who she asked to be her birthing partner before the delivery.

Ahead of the baby’s arrival Emilie, 22, moved in with Kym, which Emilie admitted was a ‘godsend’ to have the support of her mum.

Kym left her role of almost 14 years as Michelle Connor in long-running soap Coronation Street last year, announcing her exit in February 2019 – she admitted her new grandchild was one of the reasons for her exit.

She said: ‘Another big factor in my decision to take a break from Corrie is the impending arrival of my grandson. I’m looking forward to having more time to spend with him and Emilie after he’s born this summer.’

Kym revealed she is banning her pregnant daughter’s unborn child from calling her granny, nanny or grandma.

Speaking alongside her daughter on Loose Women early last year, the pop star turned actress said: ‘I can’t… no way I’m being a grandmother or granny or nanny. We looked up names on the internet. I’m going to be Lolly.’

Lauren Goodger was seen taking a break from self-isolation on Tuesday as she headed out to fill up her car with petrol and stop for a portion of chips.

While the country remains in government-mandated lockdown – in which Brits have been instructed to only leave the house for one hour of exercise per day aside from food shopping trips – the TOWIE star was seen stepping out.

Clad in all-black, Lauren, 33, cut a low-key figure as she pumped petrol while donning protective gloves before stopping for chips at a local restaurant.

It’s been a tough time for Lauren, who was forced to close her beauty salon Lauren’s Way until further notice amid the global health crisis. She wrote on Instagram: ‘We will be closed until further notice.’

She added: ‘But I am still on the Instagram for bookings and planning more beautiful faces for when this COVID-19 passes stay safe.’

Lauren previously joked that she’d be ‘pregnant by the end of the week’ if she had a boyfriend to self-isolate with during the coronavirus pandemic.

The former TOWIE star shared snaps of herself in a dressing gown as she lounged on her sofa, while abiding current legislation and staying indoors.

Lauren cheekily joked about how she would keep busy with a man if she was forced to stay in ‘quarantine’ with her other-half while the crisis rages on.

Despite currently being single, Lauren admitted she was ‘actually looking forward’ to spending some time at home, as she plugged a new diet box that was due to arrive.

She added: ‘If I had a boyfriend def be preg by end of the week hahahaa #quarantine #selfisolate.’

This isn’t the first time Lauren has shared candid insights with her Instagram followers, as in November last year she discussed her love life and favourite sex position.

Sam Faiers risked a £1,000 fine on Tuesday as she drove her black Range Rover without a rear licence plate to stock up on supplies at local shops in Surrey.

Failing to show a correct number plate fitted in the right place can lead to a fine of up to £1,000 or a failed MOT test.

The DVLA and GOV website states that vehicles must have both a front and back plate, with the latter displaying black characters on a yellow background.

A spokesman for Sam told MailOnline: ‘Samantha recently had her rear number plate stolen and has been unable to get it replaced due to the current lockdown.’

Sam, 29, cut a casual figure in an all-black Nike tracksuit as she picked up some essential items for her family during the UK COVID-19 lockdown.

The star was seen unloading shopping into the boot of the vehicle with the rear licence plate visibly missing.

Earlier in the day, Sam enjoyed a workout session with her sister Billie, 30, and their personal trainer via FaceTime.

Only recently Sam moved into a luxury £2.25million five-bedroom home in Surrey with five en-suite bathrooms and a large modern kitchen.

The former TOWIE star, 29, and her long-term partner Paul Knightley, 31, who she shares children Paul, four, and Rosie, two, with, relocated from Hertfordshire to their new property last month before the country went into lockdown.

Mother-of-two Sam is renting the lavish home for £7,000 per month following the success of her ITVBe show The Mummy Diaries which also stars her sister Billie, 30.

The newly-built house has a fitted kitchen that Sam has already showcased on her Instagram while filming TikTok videos with Paul and her children.

Sam’s sister Billie also bought a new £1.4million home this year but photos of her place with husband Greg show that the property needs extensive renovations.

Billie, who’s a mum to Nelly, six, and Arthur, three, is planning to give the property an Essex makeover but has admitted it will be up to 18 months before the family can move in.

He shared: ‘I think it’s important to like stay updated and stay in the know but don’t sit there, I haven’t been like sitting just watching the news constantly because it makes you a little anxious.’

He continued: ‘I think if you’re with friends and stuff it’s important to be laughing and having fun still as much as you can and like checking in on people who you know who might be living by themselves or might be isolating by themselves and stuff like that.’
