Tragedy as 13-year-old dies after car he was DRIVING rolled and burst into flames  

A 13-year-old boy has died after the stolen car he was driving rolled and burst into flames.

 

The tragedy unfolded in Bowen, North Queensland, at about 6.45am on Wednesday.

The car was allegedly stolen from Sarina, a nearby town at about 4am.

A 14-year-old passenger was treated at the scene by members of the public before emergency crews arrived.

The passenger was taken to hospital for treatment of serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Superintendent Glenn Morris from the Mackay Whitsunday Police District told the to ABC investigations were ongoing.

‘A young person has lost his life, and the young person who was in the vehicle with an accomplice or a friend has witnessed that occurrence and is undergoing medical treatment himself,’ he said.

Superintendent Morris said he understood passenger was pulled from the car by members of the public who first arrived at the scene.

Anyone near the area with information or dashcam footage is being urg ed to contact police.
