Yoruba Nation Rally: Shots fired as police disperse Yoruba nation agitators in Lagos
This came after Hakeem Odumosu, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, spoke to journalists at the event and stated that no rally is permitted in Lagos.
Some Yoruba nation agitators, on the other hand, defied the security forces by distributing posters and flyers announcing their coming and presence.
Shots were fired a few minutes later, and hot water from an armoured tank was used to disperse the crowd.
Police officers were seen dragging some of the protestors into an armored tank.
On Thursday and Friday, the Lagos State Police Command issued two statements warning the agitators to postpone the march due to intelligence reports that the protest would be infiltrated by hoodlums.
However, the rally’s organizers, which include Sunday Igboho-led group and Ilana Omo Oodua, the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, led by Emeritus Professor Banji Akintoye, a renowned historian and former senator, assured that it will take place as planned.
