Lizzie became the latest casualty of The Great British Bake Off Tent after failing to impress with her ice cream sandwiches on Tuesday’s episode.

The bakers headed into the quarter final of the competition and had to tackle Free From week which saw them have to make dairy-free ice cream sandwiches, vegan sausage rolls and gluten free cakes.

The contests were put under pressure this week as they were not allowed to use gluten, dairy or meat in their bakes.

Crystelle, Jurgen, Chigs and Giusseppe all made it through to next week’s semi-final.

The bakers struggled from the start of the show with their bakes, with Jurgen being in despair over his ice cream sandwiches.

Chigs’ bakes were neat for the first round but the judges thought they needed more mango to come through.

Lizzie, meanwhile, currently sat middle of the board with her chocolate and vanilla sandwiches which the judges noted were good in flavour but messy.

Jurgen failed to impress with the appearance of his macarons which did not have time to rest and therefore didn’t have time to get their staple harden outside.

Twitter users shared their worry about the beloved Jurgen with many hoping he still pulled it out the bag.

Jurgen has become one of this year’s favourites and has won a staggering three star baker accolades.

One wrote: ‘Not being dramatic, but if Jurgen leaves the tent it will hands down be the worst thing to happen this year.’

Another penned: ‘Prayer circle for Jurgen’

But it was Giuseppe and Crystelle who impressed the judges the most while Chigs’ bake was under par due to lack of flavour.

Jurgen dropped the whole tray of his rolls out of the oven in a dramatic moment which he responded by saying ‘you didn’t see it.’

The technical saw Crystelle coming fifth for vegan sausage rolls, while Chigs came first.

Paul and Prue complained that Crystelle’s chutney was ‘too spicy’ and Paul even made her try it at the end of the round.

Jurgen came 4th, Lizzie 3rd, Giuseppe 2nd and Chigs brought it back from his signature by coming 1st.

The showstopper saw the bakers have to make gluten free cakes, with Giuseppe choosing a black forest gateau, Chigs did a red velvet cake, and Jurgen a chocolate three tiered cake.

Crystelle, meanwhile, displayed her impressive piping skills with a cake which was inspired by her grandma’s wedding dress.

Lizzie, impressed with a multicoloured cake which represented her mental health disorders which include ADHA, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

The bake impressed the judges when it came to judging as they said it was ‘beautifully done.’

Paul joked: ‘I’d have that on my 40th anyway, when that eventually comes around’

Giuseppe’s bake did not impress the judges and they called it ‘gluey and stodgy.’

Crystelle and Jurgen both impressed the judges with their flavour and texture but it was Chigs who came out on top with his cake.

Paul Hollywood transformed into The Hulk as he introduced the show this week as he painted himself green and wore a ripped white T-shirt.

He took to Instagram to share a quick snap of himself in his Hulk costume.

The baker captioned the post: ‘Free from week makes me angry.’

He posed on a buggy while his white hair stood on end in the photo.
