The Christmas season is well and truly under way, with glittering lights decorating houses and streets – and advent calendars just hours from being opened.

But in London, there’s one adorable event that has kicked off the holiday period with style – the Rescue Dogs of London Christmas Jumper Parade.

If you’re heading to the capital today, you may have spotted dozens of stylish pups in their very best Christmas attire – some in holiday jumpers, and some inspired by Santa Claus.

The Christmas Jumper Parade, organised by the Rescue Dogs of London, saw dogs of all shapes and sizes gather at St James’s Park in their best red and green ensembles.

A very smart pug dressed up like a Christmas elf for the occasion, while a family of beautifully-groomed poodles wore matching knitted red jumpers and scarves.

One French bulldog donned a Christmas beret, paired with a quilted pink jacket – which featured a number of festive red bows.

There were even pups in tiny Santa hats, and some whose Christmas outfits featured glittering tulle skirts.

The dogs and their owners met at St James’s Park near Horse Guards Parade on Saturday, before heading on a stroll past some of London’s most iconic landmarks.

Rescue Dogs of London said the walk was in support of ‘two amazing dog rescues’.

The charity said: ‘Starting at St James’s Park opposite Horse Guards Parade, we’ll stroll down The Mall towards Buckingham Palace and walk through Green Park, where we’ll finish the parade.

‘After the parade, you can pop across to the dog-friendly and stylish Athenaeum Hotel for complimentary refreshments to warm up.’
