Instagram users reported that the social media app was not working for users in the US and UK on Thursday, October 14.
The outage began to hit users at around 9pm on October 14, according to DownDetector.
The site received more than 1,000 reports of people now being able to refresh their feed or access their direct messages.
People who tried to see the latest images on their feed were repeatedly met with an error message that read “couldn’t refresh feed”.
Folk rushed to Twitter to vent their frustrations at the downtime. am unable to post any reels on our Instagram account. Please help

Another said: “Does Instagram keep saying can’t refresh feed for anyone else?”
And a third wrote:”My instagram still f**king up. It says ‘can’t refresh feed’.”
However, service reportedly resumed roughly 40 minutes later.
It follows a major outage last week that knocked Facebook services – including WhatsApp and Instagram – offline for seven hours.
The social media apps were down for billions of users across the globe on October 4 in Facebook’s worst global outage since 2008.

When else has Instagram gone down?
The last major outage was on October 4.
Downdetector was hit with a sharp spike in users reporting that they were having problems using the image-sharing app’s features.
Users reported being unable to access the smartphone apps and websites of the hugely popular services.
The scale of the incident has sparked renewed calls for big technology platforms to be broken up and greater choice and competition offered to consumers said Margrethe Vestager.
The incident highlighted the negative impact of big tech firms controlling large swathes of the online world.
“Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication,” Facebook’s Santosh Janardhan said.
“This disruption to network traffic had a cascading effect on the way our data centers communicate, bringing our services to a halt.”
