It was just one piece of many in the auction called Property From the Estate of Olivia Newton-John, which sold a range of collectors items once owned by the late singer.

Other items up for grabs included her 2002 ARIA Hall of Fame Award, which sold for AU $20,000, her 2014 passport and a copy of a handwritten speech she once gave.

In 2019, Newton-John originally sold the jacket for a whopping AU $587,000 through an auction house, and the buyer shocked her by returning it to her – it remained in her possession until her death in August 2022.

Among the first to pay tribute to her was John Travolta, her co-star in Grease – the 1978 movie that catapulted her career and made her a global icon.

‘My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better. Your impact was incredible’ he said in an Instagram post at the time.

The beloved actress famously beat breast cancer twice but was diagnosed again in 2017.

She spent the last few years at home, campaigning for animals’ rights and raising money for her charity online.

In a haunting interview with The Guardian in 2020, she said of the disease: ‘It’s been a part of my life for so long.

‘I felt something was wrong. It’s concerning when it comes back, but I thought ‘I’ll get through it again”.

In other interviews, when asked how she battled the disease so bravely, she said: ‘I’ve had and am having an amazing life so I have no complaints.’
