The 25-year-old mentally-disturbed man who rammed his car into a barricade at the Capitol on Friday, killing a member of the Capitol Police, was caught on camera 90 minutes before the attack, calmly purchasing a 10-inch kitchen knife.

Noah Green, 25, was shot and killed by Capitol Police following the attack, which happened shortly after 1pm.

His brother Brendan has told of the family’s deep concern about his mental state, with Green, a college football star who graduated with a degree in finance, suffering since 2019 from paranoia, hallucinations, and suicidal thoughts.

Green on Thursday night was described as being violently ill, and told Brendan, who he had moved in with two weeks previously, that he was leaving to be homeless.

On Friday Green was caught on surveillance camera browsing the knives in District Cutlery, around ten minutes drive from the Capitol.

The store, which bills itself as the only specialist knife retailer in DC, counts celebrated chefs such as Jose Andres among its clients, and sells artisan knives for several hundred dollars.

Green can be seen in a white hoodie browsing the knives inside a glass cabinet.

He turns several over, inspecting them, before settling on a Kurosaki Shizuku Sujihiki 270mm SG2 knife.

The distinctive knife with its ‘tsuchime’, or hammered metal, pattern on the blade – designed for slicing – is made by the youngest Japanese blacksmith to ever be made a Master Blacksmith, Yu Kurosaki.

The knife retails for around $300.

Green is seen calmly paying for the knife with his bank card. The cashier then wraps the knife in a brown paper parcel, tightly sealed, and hands it to Green who thanks him as he walks away.

Shortly after, more video would show Green emerging from his crashed car with the knife in his hand and starting to run at the pair of officers.

Green’s family spoke of his increasingly delusional thoughts.

In online posts since removed, Green described being under government thought control and said he was being watched.

He described himself as a follower of the Nation of Islam and its longtime leader, Louis Farrakhan, and spoke of going through a difficult time when he leaned on his faith.

“To be honest these past few years have been tough, and these past few months have been tougher,” wrote Green in late March.

“I have been tried with some of the biggest, unimaginable tests in my life. I am currently now unemployed after I left my job partly due to afflictions, but ultimately, in search of a spiritual journey.”

Officer William Evans was killed in the attack.

It was the second line-of-duty death this year for the U.S. Capitol Police, still struggling to heal from the January 6 insurrection.

The family of slain U.S. Capitol Police Officer William ‘Billy’ Evans paid tribute to him as a ‘father, son, brother and friend’ in a statement on Tuesday.

The Evans family described him as a father who loved lightsaber duels and Harry Potter, who made friends with anyone he met. And said the most important thing in life were his children Logan and Abigail.

‘Billy was the best father, son, brother, and friend anyone could ever hope for. His death has left a gaping void in our lives that will never be filled,’ the Evans family said in a statement released by the U.S. Capitol Police.

The family also released photos of Evans with his children. In one Logan and Abigail are in their Halloween costumes, and, in the second, Evans is laying in a hammock with them, wearing a shirt that reads USCP.

‘The absolute most important thing in his life was his two children, Logan and Abigail. His most cherished memories were those spent with them – building Lego, having lightsaber duels, playing board games, doing arts and crafts, and recently finishing the Harry Potter series,’ the family said. ‘Their dad was their hero long before the tragic events of last week.’

‘While family was always first, Billy had the open, welcoming personality that led him to make friends with anyone he met. He relished bringing people together and making sure everyone felt included and had a good time.’

‘The outpouring of support we have received from the law enforcement community from around the country and world both humbles us and serves as a testament to Billy’s sacrifice and dedication to the mission of which he was charged.’

Their statement comes following the announcement Evans will lie in honor in the United States Capitol Rotunda next week after being killed in the line of duty.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced Tuesday that Evans will lie in repose on April 13th.

‘In giving his life to protect our Capitol and our Country, Officer Evans became a martyr for our democracy. On behalf of the entire Congress, we are profoundly grateful,’ the two Democratic leaders said in a statement.

Evans was killed in last Friday’s attack on Capitol Hill when a vehicle rammed into Evans and another officer at a barricade just 100 yards from the Capitol building.

‘It is our hope that this tribute will be a comfort to the family of Officer Evans, particularly his children Logan and Abigail, as will the knowledge that so many Americans mourn with and pray for them at this sad time,’ Schumer and Pelosi said.

‘May this tribute also be a source of comfort and an expression of gratitude to the U.S. Capitol Police Force, which has awed our nation with their courage and resilience during this devastating time.’

A ceremonial arrival will take place on Tuesday, April 13th at 10:30 a.m. on the East Front of the U.S. Capitol with a ceremony in the rotunda at 11:00 a.m. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ceremony will be open to invited guests only.

There will be a viewing period for members of the U.S. Capitol Police and members of Congress with a ceremonial departure at 6:30 p.m.

Evans was an 18-year veteran of the force. The investigation into his death remains ongoing, but there is no indication that Evans was stabbed, slashed or shot, a U.S. Capitol Police official told the AP.

Evans is the sixth person and fourth Capitol Police officer to receive the distinction of lying in honor in the Capitol Rotunda, a designation for those who were not government or military officials.
