The biggest stars in music were ready to rock and roll as they made their way to the MTV Video Music Awards red carpet at the UBS Arena in Long Island, New York on Wednesday night.

Taylor Swift opted for tartan in her very Reputation coded look – consisting of a yellow and black plaid top half and open skirt – revealing black hot shorts that matched her thigh-high boots and lace up gloves.

Taylor, 34, is wearing Dior Resort 2025, with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry including 30 carats pear shaped canary yellow diamond earrings surrounded by black jade.

Sabrina Carpenter, 25, channeled Marilyn Monroe in her shimmering sequin silver gown, adding touseled locks and red lipstick on her pout, as she led the best dressed on the VMAs red carpet.

Sabrina is wearing vintage Bob Mackie from his 1991 collection – the same dress that Madonna wore to the 1991 Academy Awards – while she was channeling Marilyn as well.

Katy Perry, 39, flashed her flat midriff in a shredded white bralette and maxi skirt, rocking wet looking locks and sultry makeup.

Katy is wearing Who Decides War from their spring 2025 collection.

Taylor looked incredible in the edgy Dior look, showcasing her statuesque frame.

The Grammy award winning singer – who is in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce – had all eyes on her in the plaid dress with the open center – revealing her tiny thigh-grazing shorts beneath.

The corset style dress put her cleavage on full display; the star added lace up gloves that went up to her shoulders, finishing up the look with boots.

Sabrina dazzled in the strapless number as she posed up a storm on the red carpet.

The vintage Bob Mackie gown from 1991 was sourced from Tab Vintage, according to WWD.

Madonna wore the exact Bob Mackie gown in 1991 for the Academy Awards in homage to Marilyn Monroe.

The iconic singer wore the dress while performing Sooner or Later at the 63rd Annual Academy Awards in 1991.

She also wore the gown to the after party, which she attended with Michael Jackson.

Madonna also wore it for the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991 prior to the awards show, per W Magazine.

Sabrina’s red carpet appearance comes after her album Short n’ Sweet – which she released on August 23rd – debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts.

The former Disney star’s new album has entered week two at number one, Billboard revealed days prior to the VMAs.

She made history with the win; Taylor has now won the Video of the Year award five times and earned her 30th VMA award in her career.

She is technically tied with Beyonce at that number but the Cowboy Carter artist had previously won 2 with her former girl group Destiny’s Child.

While on stage for her Video of the Year, Taylor thanked her boyfriend Travis Kelce, even tearing up.

Taylor recognized her boyfriend of nearly a year Travis and his contribution to the music video during her speech as she said: ‘And you know, the things that this video seems very sad when you watch it, but it was like the most fun video to make and something I will always remember is that when I would finish I take and I would say cut and we’d be done with the take, I would always just here someone cheering and like woo from across the studio where we were shooting it and that one person was my boyfriend Travis.’

‘Everything this man touches turns into happiness and find a magic so I want to thank him for adding that to our shoot because I will always remember that,’ she said.

Earlier in the night Taylor was the first artist to take home the coveted Moon Person.

The megastar star earned the win in the Best Collab category alongside Post Malone at the MTV VMAs 2024 on Wednesday night.

As the award show landed on the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Taylor did not forget to recognize that dark day when she began her acceptance speech.

She said: ‘You guys, I wanted to say waking up this morning in New York on September 11th, I’ve been thinking about what happened 23 years ago.’

‘Everyone who lost a loved one, everyone that we lost, and that’s the most important thing about today. And everything that happens tonight.’

Meanwhile, Sabrina Carpenter had the biggest upset of the night as she defeated her mentor Taylor.

Sabrina earned the coveted Song Of The Year Moon Person over the pop megastar for her smash hit Espresso.

She also took the stage to perform some of her hits – including Taste, Please Please and Espresso.

Another one of the biggest awards of the night came with this year’s recipient of the legendary Video Vanguard Award in Katy Perry.

The 39-year-old singer – born Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson – was presented the honor by fiance Orlando Bloom as she planted a massive kiss on him – after she performed a medley of her hits.

She began her acceptance speech by saying: ‘Thank you so much to MTV for believing in my weirdness from day one, and for being such a pivotal teacher to so many generations that an artist’s there are so many things that have to align to have a long and successful career as an artist. There are no decades-long accidents.’

The coveted Best New Artist prize went to one of the hottest artists of the summer, Chappell Roan, as she beat out an impressive field including Benson Boone, Gracie Abrams, Shaboozey, Teddy Swims, and Tyla.
